1:37	Is it all right?	શું બધું બરાબર છે?

1:51	He didn’t much alter it.	મને લાગે છે કે એણે માઇકની ગોઠવણમાં
		કંઈ ખાસ ફેરફાર નથી કર્યો.

1:57	I hope you can all hear.	હું આશા રાખું છું કે
		તમે બધાં સાંભળી શકો તેમ છો.

2:10	I wonder why you are all here.	મને આશ્ચર્ય છે
		કે તમે બધાં અહીં કેમ આવ્યાં છો.

2:18	If one asked that question	જો તમને કોઈ ગંભીરતાથી એ પ્રશ્ન પૂછે,
	seriously,

2:25	what would be your answer?	તો તમારો શો જવાબ હોય?

2:29	Why we are all gathered here	શા માટે આપણે સૌ અહીં ગંગાકિનારે
	on the banks of the Ganga –	ભેગાં થયાં છીએ

2:35	of course, sacred river,	- અલબત્ત, પવિત્ર નદી,

2:38	therefore partially	એટલે અંશતઃ તે કારણે તમે અહીં છો.
	for that reason you are here.

2:43	And I wonder	અને મને આશ્ચર્ય છે કે
	what other reasons you have	બીજાં કયાં કારણોસર તમે

2:47	to come and listen	અહીં આ માણસને
	to this person.	સાંભળવા આવ્યાં છો.

2:53	Is it merely reputation?	શું તે માત્ર પ્રતિષ્ઠાને લીધે છે?

3:02	Is it merely that you	શું માત્ર એ જ કે તમે
	have heard this man talk	આ માણસને પહેલાં કેટલીક વાર

3:07	several times before;	બોલતાં સાંભળ્યો છે;

3:10	therefore you say,	અને એટલે તમે કહો છો,
	let’s go and hear?	ચાલો, જઈને સાંભળીએ?

3:15	What relationship	તે જે કહે છે અને તમે જે કરો છો
	with what he says to what you do?	તેની વચ્ચે શો સંબંધ છે?

3:23	You understand my question?	તમે મારો પ્રશ્ન સમજો છો?

3:26	What is the relationship	તે જે કહે છે અને તમે જે કરો છો

3:32	with what he says and what you do?	તેની વચ્ચે શો સંબંધ છે?

3:40	Are they two separate things?	શું આ બે અલગ વસ્તુઓ છે?

3:48	Or, you just listen	અથવા, તમે માત્ર તે જે કહે છે
	to what he has to say,	તે સાંભળો છો,

	as two old friends,

5:16	We have got so many problems	આપણી પાસે ઘણા પ્રશ્નો છે
	– how to meditate,	- કેવી રીતે ધ્યાન ધરવું,

5:23	which guru to follow,	કયા ગુરુને અનુસરવું,
	if you are a follower,	જો તમે અનુયાયી હો તો

5:29	what kind of practice	કયા પ્રકારની પદ્ધતિ અપનાવવી,
	you should do,

5:37	what kind of daily activity	કયા પ્રકારની રોજિંદી પ્રવૃત્તિ આચરવી,
	you should go through,

5:44	and so on.	વગેરે વગેરે.

5:46	And also, what is our	અને પ્રકૃતિ - વૃક્ષો, નદીઓ, પર્વતો,
	relationship to nature –

5:53	all the trees, the rivers	મેદાનો અને ખાઈઓ -
	and the mountains,

5:57	and the plains and the valleys –	સાથે આપણો શો સંબંધ છે?

6:02	what is our relationship	પ્રકૃતિ સાથે આપણો શો સંબંધ છે?
	to nature?

6:06	To a tree, to a flower,	એક વૃક્ષ સાથે, એક ફૂલ અને
	to a bird that passes by,	તેની પાસેથી પસાર થતા એક પંખી સાથે,

6:15	and what is our relationship	અને એકબીજા સાથે આપણો શો સંબંધ છે -
	with each other –

6:22	not with the speaker	વક્તા સાથે નહીં - પણ એકમેકની સાથે,
	– but with each other,

6:28	with your wife, with your husband,	તમારી પત્ની સાથે, તમારા પતિ સાથે,
	with your children,	તમારાં સંતાનો સાથે,

6:34	with all the environment,	આ સમગ્ર પર્યાવરણ સાથે,
	as government, neighbour,	સરકાર, પાડોશી,

6:41	community and so on?	સમુદાય સાથે શો સંબંધ છે?

6:44	What’s our relationship to all this?	શો છે આપણો આ બધા સાથેનો સંબંધ?

6:49	Or, are we so isolated,	અથવા તો, આપણે બહુ એકલા, બહુ સ્વાર્થી,

6:57	so self-concerned,	માત્ર આપણા પોતાના જ જીવનમાં

7:06	so intensely interested	ભારે રસ ધરાવનારાં છીએ?
	in our own way of life?

7:16	Please, I am asking – we are asking	મહેરબાની કરીને, હું પૂછું છું...
	you all these questions.	અમે તમને આ બધા પ્રશ્નો પૂછીએ છીએ.

7:25	So as two friends	માટે, બે મિત્રો તરીકે
	– the speaker means as friends –	- વક્તાનો અર્થ છે મિત્ર -

7:31	not as a guru.	ગુરુ તરીકે નહીં.

7:35	You have had enough gurus	આ દેશમાં ઘણા ગુરુઓ છે.
	in this country.

7:41	They are really quite not worth it.	તે બધાનું કોઈ ખાસ મૂલ્ય નથી.

7:51	And the speaker has no intention	અને વક્તાનો તમારી ઉપર કોઈ છાપ પાડવાનો,
	whatsoever to impress you,

8:00	to tell you what to do,	કે તમને શું કરવું તે કહેવાનો,
	or to help you.	કે તમને મદદ કરવાનો બિલકુલ ઇરાદો નથી.

8:08	Please bear this in mind	મહેરબાની કરીને આ વ્યાખ્યાન દરમ્યાન

8:13	he has no intention whatsoever	તેનો તમને મદદ કરવાનો
	to help you.	બિલકુલ ઇરાદો નથી.

8:21	I will tell you why –	હું તમને કહીશ કે કેમ -
	the reason, the logic of it.	તેનું કારણ, તેનો તર્ક.

8:28	You have had a great many gurus,	તમે લોકોએ હજારોની સંખ્યામાં
	thousands of them,	ગુરુઓને, મદદગારોને જોયા છે -

8:34	a great many helpers –	ખ્રિસ્તી, હિન્દુ, બૌદ્ધ,
	Christian helpers, Hindus, Buddhist,

8:41	every kind of leader,	દરેક પ્રકારના નેતાઓ,
	not only politically,	માત્ર રાજનૈતિક નહીં,

8:48	but so-called religiously.	પરંતુ કહેવાતા ધાર્મિક ક્ષેત્રમાં પણ.

8:52	I do not know what that word	એ શબ્દનો શો અર્થ છે
	means for the moment,	તે હું અત્યારે જાણતો નથી,

8:54	we will go into that word.	તે શબ્દ વિષે આપણે પછીથી વાત કરીશું.

8:59	And you have had leaders	તમે ભવ્ય પ્રકારના અને
	of major kind and the minor,	મામૂલી પ્રકારના નેતાઓ જોયા છે,

9:04	and where are you at the end	અને આ વીસ લાખ વર્ષો જૂની,
	of this long evolution

9:10	of two million years old?	લાંબી ઉત્ક્રાંતિને અંતે તમે ક્યાં છો?

9:14	Where are you?	ક્યાં છો તમે?

9:17	Where are we	આપણે ક્યાં છીએ
	– you, and all of us here?	- તમે, અને અહીં હાજર આપણે બધાં?

	– spiritually –	તો આધ્યાત્મિક રીતે જોતાં

10:15	we are still barbarian.	આપણે હજુ જંગલી છીએ.

10:20	We kill each other	આપણે એકબીજાને માત્ર યુદ્ધમાં જ નહીં,
	not only in a war,

10:26	but also by our words,	પણ આપણા શબ્દો તેમ જ હાવભાવ
	by a gesture.	દ્વારા પણ મારી નાખીએ છીએ.

10:31	We are very competitive.	આપણે બહુ સ્પર્ધાત્મક છીએ.

10:36	Am I talking to myself	શું હું મારી જાત સાથે વાત કરી રહ્યો છું
	or are we together in this?	કે આપણે આમાં સાથે છીએ?

10:46	We are very ambitious.	આપણે બહુ મહત્વાકાંક્ષી છીએ.

10:50	Each is concerned with himself.	દરેકને પોતાની જાત સાથે જ નિસબત છે.

10:54	Self-interest.	સ્વાર્થવૃત્તિ.

10:57	That is the dominant	તે આપણા જીવનનો પ્રધાન સૂર છે.
	note in our life.

11:03	Self-interest.	સ્વાર્થવૃત્તિ.
	Concerned with one’s own wellbeing,	આપણાં પોતાનાં હિત, સલામતી,

11:10	security, position,	પદવી, સત્તા વગેરે સાથે નિસબત.
	power and so on.

11:20	Aren’t we concerned	શું આપણે આધ્યાત્મિક, ધાર્મિક,
	with ourselves, spiritually,	કામધંધો વગેરે બાબતોમાં

11:28	religiously, business and so on,	આપણી પોતાની જ જાત સાથે
		નિસબત નથી ધરાવતા?

11:36	each one right through the world,	આખી દુનિયાનો દરેક માણસ,

11:40	whether Russian, American	રશિયન, અમેરિકન કે યુરોપીઅન વગેરે,
	or Europeans and so on,

11:46	we are all concerned	માત્ર પોતાની જ જાત સાથે નિસબત રાખે છે.
	with ourselves.

11:52	That means isolating ourselves	એનો અર્થ એ કે આપણે પોતાને
	from the rest of humanity.	બાકીની માનવજાતથી અલગ કરીએ છીએ.

12:00	That’s a fact.	તે એક હકીકત છે.
	We are not exaggerating.	આપણે અતિશયોકિત નથી કરી રહ્યા.

12:04	We are not saying something	આપણે એવું કંઈ નથી કહી રહ્યા
	that is not true.	જે સાચું નથી.

12:11	Wherever you go – the speaker	તમે જ્યાં પણ જાવ -
	has been all over the world	વક્તા આખી દુનિયામાં ફર્યો છે

12:18	at a certain time	અને હજુ બધે ફરે છે.
	and still goes round.

12:23	Some of you have come a long way,	તમારામાંના કેટલાક ઘણું ફર્યા છે,
	so has the speaker,

12:28	a very long way.	અને વક્તા પણ ઘણું ફર્યો છે.

12:31	And when you go around the world	અને જયારે તમે દુનિયામાં ઘૂમો

12:33	and see what is happening	ત્યારે જુઓ છો

12:38	– increase of armaments,	- શસ્ત્રસરંજામમાં વધારો,

12:43	violence, fanaticism,	હિંસા, ઝનૂન,

12:52	and the great, deep sense	અને અસલામતી, અસુરક્ષાની ભારે ઊંડી લાગણી,
	of insecurity, uncertainty

13:07	and the sense of separateness,	અને અલગતાનો ભાવ,
	‘you’ and ‘I’. Right?	'તમે અને 'હું'. ખરું?

13:17	This is the common note of mankind.	આ માનવજાતનો સહિયારો સૂર છે.

13:22	Please, we are facing	કૃપા કરીને, આપણે હકીકતોનો
	facts, not theories,	સામનો કરી રહ્યાં છીએ,

13:29	not some kind of	નહીં કે કોઈ તાત્વિક સિદ્ધાંતો
	distant, theoretical,	અથવા કોઈ પ્રકારનાં દૂરનાં,

13:34	philosophical statements.	સૈદ્ધાંતિક, આધ્યાત્મિક વિધાનોનો.

13:46	We are looking at facts,	આપણે હકીકતોને જોઈ રહ્યાં છીએ,

13:48	not my facts opposed	તમારી હકીકતોના વિરોધમાં
	to your facts – facts.	મારી હકીકતો નહીં - હકીકતો.

13:54	Every country in the world	તમે સૌ જાણતાં જ હશો કે
	as you must all know,

14:02	gathering armaments	આ દુનિયાનો દરેક દેશ,

14:05	– every country,	ગમે તેટલો ગરીબ હોય કે તવંગર,

14:07	however poor or however rich.	શસ્ત્રો એકઠાં કરે છે.
	Right?	ખરું?

14:13	Look at your own country –	તમારા પોતાના દેશને જુઓ -
	immense poverty, disorder,	અપાર ગરીબી, ગેરવ્યવસ્થા,

14:22	corruption	ભ્રષ્ટાચાર
	– you all know that –	- તમે એ બધું જાણો છો -

14:28	and gathering of armaments.	અને શસ્ત્રસરંજામનો વધારો.

14:35	It used to be a club to kill another,	બીજાને મારી નાખવાની એક ક્લબ હતી,

14:42	now you can vaporise mankind	હવે તમે માનવજાતને લાખોની સંખ્યામાં
	by the million

14:49	with one atom bomb or neutron bomb.	એક એટમ બૉમ્બ કે ન્યુટ્રોન બૉમ્બથી
		ઊડાવી દઈ શકો છો.

14:54	We have, from the club,	આપણી પાસે ક્લબમાં તીરકામઠાં વગેરે હતું,
	arrow and so on,

14:59	till we have the atom bomb.	હવે આપણી પાસે એટમ બૉમ્બ છે.

15:05	And we have progressed,	અને આપણે પ્રૌદ્યોગિક ક્ષેત્રે
		અતિશય પ્રગતિ કરી છે -

15:09	technologically, immensely –	ક્રાંતિ ચાલી રહી છે,

15:17	revolution is going on,	જેના વિષે આપણે બહુ ઓછું જાણીએ છીએ.
	of which we know very little.

15:27	The technological process	પ્રૌદ્યોગિક પ્રક્રિયા એટલી ઝડપી છે કે
	is so rapid,

15:39	overnight is already over	ગઈકાલનું જૂનું થઇ જાય છે
	– something new.	- આજે કંઈક નવું.

15:47	And, ethically we are what we	અને સભ્યતાની બાબતમાં આપણે
	have been for a million years.	લાખો વર્ષો પૂર્વે હતાં તેવાં જ છીએ.

15:56	You understand the contrast?	તમે આ વિરોધાભાસને સમજો છો?

16:00	Technologically,	પ્રૌદ્યોગિક ક્ષેત્રે, કમ્પ્યુટર
	like the computer,	માણસ કરતાં ઝડપી વિચારી શકે છે,

16:06	which can outthink man,	ધ્યાનની નવી પદ્ધતિઓના,
	it can invent new meditations,	નવા ઈશ્વરોના,

16:15	new gods, new theories.	નવા તાત્વિક સિદ્ધાંતોના
		આવિષ્કાર કરી શકે છે.

16:20	We were talking the other day	થોડા દિવસ પહેલાં અમે
	with three or four	કમ્પ્યુટરના ત્રણ ચાર

16:26	very prominent computer people.	નિષ્ણાતો સાથે વાત કરતા હતા.

16:33	The computer can think	કમ્પ્યુટર આગળ અને પાછળ વિચારી શકે છે,
	backwards and forwards

16:38	which is called ‘architecture’.	જેને 'આર્કિટેક્ચર' કહે છે.

16:41	I am not going into it	હું અત્યારે તેમાં ઊંડો નથી જતો.
	for the moment.

16:45	And this fifth or sixth	અને આ પાંચમી કે છઠ્ઠી પેઢીનું કમ્પ્યુટર
	generation of computers

16:52	is so quick,	એટલું ત્વરિત અને એટલું

16:57	so extraordinarily capable –	તે કોઈ વસ્તુને શોધી શકે છે,

17:02	it can invent, it can produce,	ઉત્પન્ન કરી શકે છે,
	it can change and so on.	તેમાં ફેરફાર કરી શકે છે વગેરે.

17:06	I won’t go into all that with you.	હું તેની વિગતોમાં તમારી સાથે ઊંડો નહીં જાઉં.

17:10	And man – that is you and I –	અને ભાઈ, આપણા - તમારા અને મારા -

17:15	what is going to happen	મગજનું શું થશે?
	to our brains?

17:18	You understand what I’m saying?	તમે મારું કહેવું સમજો છો?

17:21	If the computer can do	જો કમ્પ્યુટર લગભગ બધું જ કરી શકતું હોય -
	anything almost –

17:24	of course there’s sex,	સિવાય કે મૈથુન, ચંદ્રને નિહાળવો વગેરે -
	or look at the new moon –

17:30	it can almost do anything	તો એ માણસ કરી શકે
	that human beings can.	એવી દરેક વસ્તુ કરી શકે.

17:36	This is not some theory,	આ કોઈ માન્યતા નથી,
	it is happening now.	આ હાલમાં બની રહ્યું છે.

17:42	So, what’s going	તો, તમારું શું થશે?
	to happen to you?

17:50	What’s going to happen	આપણું એટલે કે માનવજાતનું શું થશે?
	to us as human beings?

17:56	We want entertainment,	આપણને મનોરંજન જોઈએ છે,

17:59	probably this is part	કદાચ આ તમારી મનોરંજનની કલ્પનાનો ભાગ છે -
	of your idea of entertainment:

18:02	coming here, sitting, listening,	અહીં આવવું, બેસવું, સાંભળવું,

18:06	and agreeing or disagreeing,	અને સંમત કે અસંમત થવું,
	and going back home,	અને ઘરે પાછા જવું,

18:10	carry on your own life.	તમારું પોતાનું જીવન એમ ને એમ ચલાવે રાખવું.

18:12	This is part of entertainment,	આ મનોરંજનનો ભાગ છે,

18:18	as going to church, temple,	જેમ કે ચર્ચ, મંદિર, મસ્જિદ અથવા ફૂટબૉલ,
	mosque or football,

18:25	cricket in this country.	આ દેશમાં ક્રિકેટ.

18:30	Please, this is not	મહેરબાની કરો, આ મનોરંજન નથી.
	an entertainment.

18:37	You and the speaker	તમારે અને વક્તાએ સાથે મળીને
	must think together,	વિચારવું જ જોઈએ,

18:43	not just to sit quietly and absorb	નહીં કે માત્ર શાંતિથી બેસી રહેવું અને
	some strange atmosphere,	કોઈ વિલક્ષણ માનસિક પરિસ્થિતિને,

18:51	some punyam.	કોઈ પુણ્યને આત્મસાત્ કરવું.

18:57	Sorry, it is not	હું દિલગીર છું, તે આવું બિલકુલ નથી.
	like that at all.

19:01	We are going to sanely,	આપણે સમજણપૂર્વક અને તર્કસંગત રીતે
	logically, think together,

19:11	look at the same thing,	સાથે મળીને વિચારીશું, તેને જોઈશું.
	together.

19:15	Not how you look and I look,	તમે જુઓ અને હું જોઉં એમ નહીં,
	but together, to observe,	પણ સાથે મળીને,

19:26	not only our daily life,	માત્ર આપણા રોજિંદા જીવનનું જ નહીં,

19:29	which is far more important	- જે બીજી કોઈ પણ બાબત કરતાં
	than any other – our daily…	વધારે અગત્યનું છે -

19:35	every minute of our day.	પરંતુ આપણા દિવસની દરેક મિનિટનું
		અવલોકન કરીશું.

19:42	So, first, we are going	માટે સૌ પ્રથમ આપણે સાથે મળીને વિચારીશું,
	to together think,

19:49	not just merely listen,	માત્ર સાંભળવાનું, સંમત કે અસંમત
	agree or disagree,	થવાનું એમ નહીં,

19:54	which is very easy.	તે તો બહુ સહેલું છે.

19:59	One wishes strongly	મારી એવી પ્રબળ ઇચ્છા છે કે
	if we could put aside

20:05	agreement and disagreement.	આપણે સંમતિ અને અસંમતિને બાજુએ મૂકી દઈએ.

20:09	That is very difficult	મોટાભાગના લોકો માટે આ બહુ અઘરું છે.
	for most people to do.

20:14	We are too eager	આપણે સંમત કે અસંમત થવા માટે
	to agree or disagree.	અતિ આતુર છીએ.

20:17	Our reactions are so quick.	આપણી પ્રતિક્રિયાઓ બહુ ઉતાવળી છે.

20:23	We classify everything –	આપણે દરેક વસ્તુનું વર્ગીકરણ કરીએ છીએ -

20:26	religious man, irreligious man,	ધાર્મિક માણસ, નાસ્તિક માણસ,
	mundane and so on.	સાંસારિક માણસ વગેરે વગેરે.

20:33	If you could,	જો તમે માત્ર આજની સવાર પૂરતું પણ
	this morning at least,	કરી શકો તેમ હો,

20:38	put aside completely	તો સંમતિ અને અસંમતિને
	agreement and disagreement,	સંપૂર્ણપણે બાજુએ મૂકી દો,

20:44	and merely observe together,	અને માત્ર સાથે મળીને અવલોકન કરો,
	think together.	સાથે મળીને વિચારો.

20:51	Will you do it?	શું તમે તેમ કરશો?

20:56	Put aside altogether	તમારો મત અને મારો મત,
	your opinion and my opinion,	તમારી વિચારવાની રીત અને

21:03	your way of thinking and	મારી વિચારવાની રીત -
	the other person’s way of thinking.	આ બધું જ બિલકુલ બાજુએ મૂકી દો.

21:11	Could we do that?	આપણે એમ કરી શકીએ?

21:12	Only for an hour. Don’t bother.	માત્ર એક કલાક પૂરતું. મૂંઝાવ નહીં.

21:16	Don’t be too long at it.	બહુ લાંબું ન વિચારો.

21:23	Because agreement and	કારણ કે સંમતિ અને અસંમતિ
	disagreement divides people.	લોકોના ભાગલા પાડે છે.

21:31	It’s illogical –	'હું તમારી સાથે સંમત છું',
		અથવા 'હું તમારી સાથે સંમત નથી'

21:34	say, ‘Yes, I agree with you’,	એમ કહેવું અતાર્કિક છે,
	or ‘I don’t agree with you’,

21:40	which means	એનો અર્થ એ કે કાં તો તમે
	you are either projecting,	તમારા મતને, તમારા નિર્ણયને,

21:45	holding to your opinion,	તમારા મૂલ્યાંકનને વળગી રહીને

21:51	or you disagree – say, ‘I am sorry,	અથવા તો તમે અસંમત થઈને એમ કહો છો
	I don’t agree with you’.	કે, 'માફ કરો, હું તમારી સાથે સંમત નથી'.

21:57	Another form of personal	વ્યક્તિગત લાભ અને
	interest and discarding.	કોરે મૂકવાનું એક બીજું રૂપ.

22:06	Could we do that,	શું આપણે માત્ર રમૂજ ખાતર
	for this morning, just for fun?	આજની સવાર પૂરતું એમ કરી શકીશું?

22:11	Just for an amusement,	માત્ર ગંમત ખાતર, અથવા
	or for entertainment if you want.	મનોરંજન ખાતર, જો તમે ઇચ્છો તો.

22:16	To forget our opinions,	આપણા અભિપ્રાયો, નિર્ણયો,
	our judgements,

22:22	our saying agreement	સંમતિ, અસંમતિને ભૂલી જઈએ,
	or disagreement,

22:24	just have a good clear brain,	માત્ર એક સારું, સાફ મન રાખીએ,

22:32	not devotional and emotional	ધાર્મિક, લાગણીશીલ કે ભાવાવેશવાળું નહીં,
	or romantic,

22:39	but a brain that thinks clearly –	પરંતુ એવું મન જે સ્પષ્ટપણે વિચારતું હોય -

22:44	if it is at all possible.	જો તે શક્ય હોય તો.

22:48	A brain that doesn’t get involved	એવું મન જે સિદ્ધાંત, અભિપ્રાય,

22:53	in all the complications	સ્વીકાર, અસ્વીકાર વગેરે ગૂંચવાડાઓમાં ન પડે.
	of theory, opinion,

22:59	admission, dismission.	આપણે તે કરી શકીશું?
	Could we do that?

23:07	Probably you have	કદાચ તમે આ ક્યારેય કર્યું નથી.
	never done this.

23:13	So let us proceed.	તો આવો, આગળ વધીએ.

23:20	What is thinking?	વિચારવું એટલે શું?

23:24	Every human being in the world,	દુનિયાનો દરેકેદરેક માણસ,

23:29	everyone, from the most	સૌથી અજાણ, સૌથી અસભ્ય કે
	ignorant, most crude,

23:37	from the very, very small	એક નાનકડા ગામમાં રહેતા
	person in a little village	એક નાના માણસથી લઈને

23:43	and to the most highly	સૌથી મહાન વ્યવહારદક્ષ વૈજ્ઞાનિક સુધી,
	sophisticated scientist,

23:51	they have something in common.	એ સૌમાં કંઈક સહિયારું છે.
	Haven’t you noticed?	તમે એ નથી નોંધ્યું?

23:57	Thinking.	વિચારવું.
	They think – the villager,	તેઓ વિચારે છે -

24:03	never read anything, never been	ગામડાનો માણસ જેણે કદી કંઈ વાંચ્યું નથી,
	to a school, college, university,	સ્કૂલ, કૉલેજ કે યુનિવર્સીટીમાં કદી ગયો નથી,

24:11	but probably most of you here,	પણ અહીં આવેલા તમારામાંના મોટા ભાગના

24:14	are or have been educated.	લોકો તો સુશિક્ષિત છે.
	Right?	ખરું?

24:24	So you think	તો તમે વિચારો છો અને
	and the villager thinks. Right?	ગામડાનો માણસ વિચારે છે. ખરું?

24:29	The man who sits	હિમાલયમાં જે માણસ
	in the Himalayas by himself,	સંપૂર્ણ એકાંતમાં બેઠેલો છે,

24:32	he also thinks.	તે પણ વિચારે છે.

24:36	So, every human being	એટલે કે, દુનિયાનો દરેક માણસ વિચાર કરે છે.
	in the world thinks.

24:45	Right?	ખરું?

24:48	And this thinking has been	અને આ વિચારવું તે
	right from the beginning of time.	અનાદિકાળથી ચાલ્યું આવે છે.

24:58	So we must ask the first question –	એટલા માટે આપણે સૌ પ્રથમ
		એ પ્રશ્ન પૂછવો જોઈએ -

25:01	as we are going to ask	અને આપણે ઘણા પ્રશ્નો પૂછવાના છીએ -
	several questions –

25:03	what is thinking?	કે વિચારવું એટલે શું?

25:08	What is it that you think about?	તમે શેના વિષે વિચારો છો?

25:11	And what is it	અને તમે શેના વિષે વિચારો છો?
	that you think about?

25:15	What is thinking? Right?	વિચારવું એટલે શું? ખરું?

25:21	Will you answer that question first?	તમે સૌ પ્રથમ એ પ્રશ્નનો જવાબ આપશો?

25:25	Not from books. Right?	પુસ્તકોમાંથી નહીં. ખરું?

25:28	Not from some Gita	કોઈ ગીતા કે ઉપનિષદ કે બાઇબલ
	or the Upanishads

25:32	or the Bible or the Koran says	કે કુરાનમાં કહેવાયેલું હોય
	– what is thinking?	તે નહીં - વિચારવું એટલે શું?

25:47	Sir, when you go	સાહેબ, તમે સ્કૂલ, કૉલેજ કે
	to college, school,

25:51	right up to the university	યુનિવર્સીટીમાં ભણેલા અમલદાર
	and you’re a bureaucrat,

25:56	or a chief minister	કે મુખ્યપ્રધાન કે વડાપ્રધાન હો
	or prime minister,

25:59	or the lowliest	અથવા ગામડાના નાનામાં નાના માણસ હો,
	of the villagers,

26:02	they’ve all something in common.	એ બધામાં કંઈક સહિયારું છે.

26:07	Apart from many other things	બીજી ઘણી બાબતો જેની ચર્ચા આપણે પછી કરીશું તે સિવાય -
	which we will go into –

26:11	what is thinking?	વિચારવું એટલે શું?

26:15	We live by thinking.	આપણે સૌ વિચારીને જીવીએ છીએ.

26:20	Our daily action	આપણાં રોજિંદા કાર્યો વિચાર ઉપર આધારિત છે.
	is based on thinking.

26:27	Unless we question, solve,	આ પ્રશ્નના પૂરા ઊંડાણમાં જઈને
	and hold to it, find out.	આપણે શોધી કાઢવાનું છે.

26:37	Whether you are	તમે ભૌતિકશાસ્ત્રી હો કે મજૂર,
	a physicist or a labourer,

26:43	or any kind of human being	અથવા તો ગમે તે પ્રકારના માણસ હો,
	on this earth, we all think.	આપણે સૌ વિચારીએ છીએ.

26:50	You may think one way,	તમે એક રીતે વિચારતા હો,
	and another may think another way,	અને બીજો માણસ બીજી રીતે વિચારતો હોય,

26:54	but it’s still thinking.	પણ તે વિચારવાની જ પ્રક્રિયા છે.
	Yeah?	ખરું?

27:01	So what is that?	તો તે શું છે?

27:09	Can you think	જો તમારી પાસે કોઈ સ્મૃતિ ન હોય
	if you have no memory?	તો તમે વિચારી શકો ખરા?

27:20	If you cannot,	જો સ્મૃતિ ન હોય,
	think backwards and forwards	તો તમે આગળનું કે પાછળનું

27:24	what you will do tomorrow	આવતીકાલે કે એક કલાક પછી
	or the next hour,	શું કરવાનું છે અથવા તો

27:29	or what you have done	ગઈકાલે કે આજે સવારે શું કર્યું હતું
	yesterday or this morning.	તે વિષે વિચારી ન શકો.

27:33	You can think forward and backward.	તમે આગળનું ને પાછળનું વિચારી શકો છો.

27:40	That is called, technologically in	તેને કમ્પ્યુટરની પ્રૌદ્યોગિક ભાષામાં
	the computer world, ‘architecture’,	'આર્કિટેક્ચર' કહે છે,

27:45	and the computers can do this.	અને કમ્પ્યુટર આ કરી શકે છે.

27:52	So you must find out together,	તેથી તમારે ભેગા મળીને શોધવું જોઈએ,

27:57	not Indian way of thinking	ભારતીય વિચારસરણી

28:02	and the European way of thinking.	અને યુરોપીઅન વિચારસરણી એમ નહીં.

28:06	I don’t know if you follow	વક્તા જે કહે છે તે તમે સમજો છો
	what the speaker is saying –	કે નહીં એ હું જાણતો નથી -

28:12	oriental way of thinking	પૌર્વાત્ય, બુદ્ધ, હિન્દુ,
	which is the Buddhist, the Hindu,	મુસલમાન, ખ્રિસ્તી

28:21	the Muslim, the Christian	કે કોઈ પણ સંપ્રદાયની વિચારધારા મુજબ નહીં.
	and all the sects.

28:29	Right?	બરાબર? તો વિચારવું એટલે શું?
	So what is thinking?

28:40	Tell me please. What is thinking?	મને કહો. વિચારવું એટલે શું?
	Why do you think?	શા માટે તમે વિચારો છો?

28:52	Are you stumped?	શું તમે મૂંઝાઈ ગયા છો?

28:57	No answer?	કોઈ જવાબ નથી?

29:02	You will discuss	હું માનું છું કે તમે મારી સાથે આવતીકાલે
	with me tomorrow I believe,

29:05	or the day after tomorrow.	અથવા પરમદિવસે વાત કરશો.

29:08	We are going to have	આપણે સાથે મળીને ચર્ચા કરવાના છીએ.
	a dialogue together.

29:14	Unless you really understand	જ્યાં સુધી તમે વિચારવાની
	the process of thinking,	પ્રક્રિયાને ન સમજો,

29:24	unless you really understand it,	જ્યાં સુધી તમે એને ખરેખર ન સમજો,

29:29	our life is always going	ત્યાં સુધી આપણું જીવન
	to be very, very limited.	હંમેશ ઘણું મર્યાદિત રહેશે.

29:36	So, we must very deeply, seriously,	માટે આપણે ખૂબ ઊંડાણમાં, ગંભીરતાપૂર્વક,

29:40	as a physicist,	એક ભૌતિક્શાસ્ત્રીની જેમ,
	as a scientist examines,	એક વૈજ્ઞાનિકની જેમ,

29:44	we must examine very, very closely	વિચારવાની આ સમગ્ર પ્રક્રિયાને
		અતિશય ઝીણવટથી તપાસવી પડે,

29:49	this whole process of thinking,	જે આપણા જીવનને ઘડે છે.
	which shapes our life.

29:59	Man has created god	માણસે પોતાના વિચારો દ્વારા
	by his thinking.	ઈશ્વરનું સર્જન કર્યું છે.

30:06	God has not created man.	ઈશ્વરે માણસનું સર્જન કર્યું નથી.

30:10	It must be a very, very poor god	એ બહુ જ નબળો ઈશ્વર હોવો જોઈએ
	who created these human beings	જેણે આવા માણસો સર્જ્યા

30:15	who are fighting	જે કાયમ એકબીજા સાથે લડ્યા જ કરે છે.
	each other perpetually.

30:21	He must be a rather silly old god.	એ તો કોઈ મૂર્ખ, બુઢ્ઢો ઈશ્વર હોવો જોઈએ.

30:27	So, what is thinking?	તો, વિચારવું એટલે શું?
	And why have we made problems of it?	અને આપણે એમાંથી સમસ્યાઓ કેમ બનાવી છે?

30:35	Right?	ખરું?
	We have problems about thinking.	આપણી પાસે વિચારવા અંગે સમસ્યાઓ છે.

30:44	So we also must examine closely	એટલે આપણે ઝીણવટથી એ પણ તપાસવું પડે
	why we have problems.	કે આપણે કયા કારણે સમસ્યાઓ છે.

30:52	Do you understand?	તમે સમજો છો?
	Are we together in this a little bit,	શું આપણે આમાં થોડે અંશે સાથે છીએ,

30:56	at least following each other,	એકબીજાને અનુસરીએ છીએ,

30:59	or have you all gone to sleep?	કે પછી તમે સૌ ઊંઘી ગયાં છો?

31:04	So first, why have we	તો પહેલી વાત, આપણા જીવનમાં
	problems in our life?	સમસ્યાઓ કેમ છે?

31:18	What is a problem?	સમસ્યા એટલે શું?

31:23	We have plenty of them:	આપણી પાસે ઘણી સમસ્યાઓ છે:
	political problems,	રાજકીય સમસ્યાઓ,

31:27	financial problems,	આર્થિક સમસ્યાઓ,
	economic problems,	નાણાંકીય સમસ્યાઓ,

31:31	the problems of one religion	એક ધર્મની બીજા
	against the other,	ધર્મ વિરુદ્ધ સમસ્યાઓ,

31:34	the problems of – oh!	ભાતભાતની સમસ્યાઓ - ઓહ!
	You understand?	તમે સમજો છો?

31:39	Haven’t you got problems	શું તમારી પાસે હજારો સમસ્યાઓ નથી?
	by the thousand?

31:46	What is a problem?	સમસ્યા એટલે શું?

31:52	And the meaning	અને તે ‘સમસ્યા’ શબ્દનો અર્થ -
	of that word ‘problem’ –

31:56	what does that mean?	તેનો અર્થ શું?
	The meaning.	અર્થ.

32:00	According to the dictionary	શબ્દકોશ પ્રમાણે એનો અર્થ છે
	it means

32:03	something thrown at you,	કશુંક તમારી તરફ ફેંકવામાં આવેલું હોય તે,
	a challenge,	કોઈ પડકાર,

32:08	something you have	એવું કશુંક કે જેનો તમારે
	got to look at, face.	સામનો કરવાનો છે.

32:14	That’s what a problem means.	આ છે સમસ્યાનો અર્થ.
	Right?	ખરું?

32:19	Are we together in this,	આપણે આમાં સાથે છીએ,
	or am I talking to myself?	કે હું મારી જાત સાથે વાત કરી રહ્યો છું?

32:27	So first, the word ‘problem’ means	તો સૌ પહેલું, 'સમસ્યા' શબ્દનો અર્થ છે
	something thrown at you.	તમારી તરફ ફેંકવામાં આવેલું હોય તે.

32:36	You can’t dodge it,	તમે કોઈ યુક્તિથી તેને ટાળી ન શકો,
	you can’t run away from it,	તેનાથી દૂર ભાગી ન જઈ શકો,

32:40	you can’t suppress it.	તમે તેને દબાવી ન શકો.
	It is there, like a sore thumb.	તે છે, એક દૂખતા અંગૂઠાની માફક.

32:49	Why is it, that all our life,	એવું કેમ કે આપણા આખા જીવનમાં,

32:54	from the moment we are born	જન્મથી લઈને મૃત્યુ સુધી,
	till we die, have problems –	સમસ્યાઓ હોય છે -

33:00	about death, about fear,	મૃત્યુ વિષે, ભય વિષે,
	about a hundred things? Right?	સેંકડો બાબતો વિષે? ખરું?

33:07	Are you asking this question,	શું તમે આ પ્રશ્ન પૂછો છો,

33:09	or am I merely asking it for you?	કે માત્ર હું જ તમારા વતી પૂછું છું?

33:15	You don’t seem to react to all this.	તમે આ બધા ઉપર કોઈ
		પ્રતિક્રિયા આપતા લાગતા નથી.

33:27	From the moment	તમારા જન્મના થોડાં વર્ષો પછી
	you are born, after a while,

33:34	after several years,	તમે સ્કૂલ જાવ છો.
	you go to school.

33:40	There you have to read, write.	ત્યાં તમારે વાંચવું, લખવું પડે છે.

33:45	That becomes a problem	બાળક માટે તે સમસ્યા
	to the child. Right?	બની જાય છે. ખરું?

33:53	And later on he has to learn	અને પછી એને બિચારાને
	mathematics, poor devil,	ગણિત શીખવું પડે છે,

33:58	and that becomes a problem.	અને તે સમસ્યા બની જાય છે.

34:01	And the mother says, ‘Don’t do,	અને મા કહે છે, 'આ કર, તે ન કર' -
	do this, don’t do that’ –

34:06	that becomes a problem.	તે સમસ્યા બની જાય છે.
	Right?	ખરું?

34:11	So, from childhood we are	એટલે કે, બાળપણથી આપણો ઉછેર
	bred in problems. Right?	સમસ્યાઓમાં થાય છે. ખરું?

34:23	Am I saying something strange?	હું કશુંક વિચિત્ર કહી રહ્યો છું?

34:32	You all look so damn serious!	તમે બધા ભારે ગંભીર દેખાવ છો!

34:39	I am sorry to use that word,	હું તે શબ્દ વાપરવા બદલ દિલગીર છું,
	but you do look very serious.	પણ તમે બધા બહુ ગંભીર દેખાવ છો.

34:47	Probably only this morning	કદાચ માત્ર આજની સવારે જ
	– anyhow that’s all right.	- કંઈ વાંધો નહીં.

34:53	So from childhood we cultivate	તો બાળપણથી આપણે લાખો
	and live in problems.	સમસ્યાઓને મનમાં સંઘરીએ છીએ.

35:01	Our brain is conditioned	આપણું મગજ સમસ્યાઓમાં
	in problems.	અનુબંધિત છે.

35:07	It is never free from problems.	તે ક્યારેય સમસ્યાઓથી મુક્ત નથી હોતું.

35:13	As you grow, become adolescent,	જેમ જેમ તમે મોટા થાવ, પુખ્ત બનો,
	sex, how to earn money, what to do,	તેમ તેમ કામવાસના અંગેની, પૈસા કમાવા અંગેની,

35:23	to follow society or not,	શું કરવું અને શું ન કરવું,
	revolt or not,	સમાજનું અનુસરણ કરવું કે નહીં,

35:26	and at the end you yield	બળવો કરવો કે નહીં વગેરે સમસ્યાઓ, અને
	to society, to environment.	છેવટે તમે સમાજને, પરિસ્થિતિને શરણે જાવ છો.

35:34	So, all this becomes a problem.	આમ, આ બધું સમસ્યા બને છે.

35:39	Every politician in the world	દુનિયાનો દરેક રાજકારણી એક
	solves one problem	સમસ્યાને હલ કરે છે

35:44	and thereby creates	અને તેમાંથી બીજી સમસ્યા પેદા કરે છે.
	another problem.

35:47	Haven’t you noticed all this?	તમે આ બધું નોંધ્યું નથી?

35:52	So, the human brain,	એટલે માણસની ખોપરીમાં રહેલા મગજમાં

35:56	what is inside the skull,	પોતાનામાં જ એક સમસ્યા છે.
	itself has a problem.

36:05	You understand?	તમે સમજો છો?

36:07	So, can the brain ever be free	તો સમસ્યાઓને હલ કરવા માટે આપણું
	of problems to solve problems?	મગજ ક્યારેય પણ સમસ્યારહિત હોઈ શકે?

36:14	Do you understand my question?	તમે મારો પ્રશ્ન સમજો છો?

36:18	If the brain is not	જો મગજ સમસ્યારહિત ન હોય,
	free of problems,

36:21	then how can it solve any problem?	તો એ કેવી રીતે કોઈ પણ સમસ્યાને
	Do you understand?	હલ કરી શકે? તમે સમજો છો?

36:27	This is logical. Right?	આ તર્કસંગત છે. ખરું?

36:32	So, can the brain, your brain,	એટલે કે, મગજ, તમારું મગજ,

36:35	that which is within the skull,	જે ખોપરીમાં રહેલું છે,
	which carries memories –	જે સ્મૃતિઓનું વહન કરે છે -

36:41	I am not going	હું વિગતોમાં નથી ઊતરતો -
	into all the details of it –

36:43	which has acquired	જેણે અસાધારણ વિદ્યા પ્રાપ્ત કરેલી છે,
	tremendous knowledge,

36:52	that brain has been nurtured,	એ મગજનું પોષણ અને કેળવણી થયાં છે
	educated, to have problems.	સમસ્યાઓ ધારણ કરવા માટે.

37:00	Right?	ખરું?

37:03	So, we are asking now:	માટે આપણે અત્યારે પૂછીએ છીએ:
	can the brain, your brain,	શું મગજ, તમારું મગજ,

37:08	can it ever be free	ક્યારેય પહેલાં સમસ્યારહિત હોઈ શકે,
	of problems first,

37:12	and then it can solve problems.	અને ત્યાર પછી એ સમસ્યાઓને હલ કરી શકે.

37:15	It’s logical. Right?	એ તર્કસંગત છે. ખરું?

37:20	So, can you be free	તો શું તમે પહેલાં સમસ્યારહિત હોઈ શકો?
	of problems first?

37:27	Or is that impossible?	કે તે અશક્ય છે?

37:32	You understand my question?	તમે મારો પ્રશ્ન સમજો છો?

37:40	Our brain is conditioned as Hindus	આપણું મગજ હિન્દુ તરીકે અને

37:45	and the various divisions	હિન્દુ ધર્મનાં જુદાંજુદાં વિભાજનો પ્રમાણે
	in Hinduism. We are –	અનુબંધિત છે.

37:52	the brain is conditioned	આપણે, આપણું મગજ એક બૌદ્ધ તરીકે,
	as a Buddhist, as a monk,	એક સાધુ તરીકે,

37:59	the brain is conditioned	એમ ઘણા બધા સંકુચિત ધર્મોમાં અનુબંધિત છે,
	in the various narrow religions,

38:08	the brain is conditioned	આપણું મગજ તજ્જ્ઞતાથી
	by specialisation. Oh, lord!	અનુબંધિત થયેલું છે. ઓ પ્રભુ!

38:17	Aren’t you interested	તમને આ બધામાં રસ નથી?
	in all this?

38:23	I am asking myself,	તમારી સામે જોઈને હું મારી જાતને પૂછું છું -
	looking at you –

38:26	aren’t you interested	તમને આ બધામાં રસ નથી?
	in all this?

38:32	Or is it the habit of going	કે પછી આ એક ટેવ છે -
	to a meeting and listening,	સભામાં જવું, સાંભળવું,

38:37	and saying,	અને કહેવું, 'હા, બિલકુલ ખરું, બિલકુલ ખરું'.
	‘Yes, quite right, quite right’.

38:44	You are a funny people, all right.	તમે રમૂજી લોકો છો, સારું.

38:51	So, let’s begin.	તો, શરુ કરીએ.

38:54	Our brain is conditioned	આપણે જે વાતાવરણમાં જીવીએ છીએ
	by environment, in which we live,	એનાથી આપણું મગજ અનુબંધિત છે,

39:02	by your education,	તમારા શિક્ષણથી,
	by your religion,	તમારા ધર્મથી,

39:08	by your poverty or richness,	તમારી ગરીબી કે અમીરીથી,

39:14	you have taken vows as monks –	સાધુઓ તરીકે તમે લીધેલી પ્રતિજ્ઞાઓથી -

39:17	I don’t know why,	મને ખબર નથી કેમ,
	but you have taken them –	પણ તમે લીધી છે -

39:20	and it becomes a torture, a problem.	અને તે યાતના બને છે, સમસ્યા બને છે.

39:26	So our brain are	આપણાં મગજ અસાધારણ રીતે
	extraordinarily conditioned –	અનુબંધિત છે -

39:33	as a business man,	ધંધાદારી માણસ તરીકે,
	as a housekeeper, and so on,	ઘર ચલાવનાર તરીકે વગેરે,

39:40	and from that narrow point of view,	અને તે સંકુચિત દૃષ્ટિબિન્દુથી
	we look at the world.	આપણે દુનિયાને જોઈએ છીએ.

39:50	So we have to go	એટલા માટે આપણે
	into this question,	આ પ્રશ્નમાં ઊંડા જવાનું છે,

39:54	not only having problems,	માત્ર સમસ્યાઓ હોવા વિષે નહીં,
	but also, what is thinking?	પણ વિચારવું એટલે શું એ પણ.

40:06	Why do you think at all?	તમે વિચારો છો જ શા માટે?

40:10	Is there a different	કાર્ય કરવાનો કોઈ બીજો રસ્તો છે ખરો?
	way of action?

40:18	Is there a different manner of	જીવન પ્રત્યે, રોજિંદા જીવન પ્રત્યે,
	approach to life, to the daily living,	કોઈ વિશિષ્ટ અભિગમ છે,

40:27	that doesn’t require thinking at all?	જેમાં વિચારવાની કોઈ જરૂર જ ન હોય?

40:30	Oh, you don’t know all this.	ઓહ, તમે આ બધું જાણતા નથી.

40:37	So first we have to look	માટે પહેલાં આપણે સાથે મળીને
	very closely, together –	ખૂબ ઝીણવટથી જોવાનું છે -

40:43	not I am explaining and you accept,	હું સમજાવું અને તમે સ્વીકારી લો એમ નહીં,
	that would be silly –	તે તો મૂર્ખામી છે -

40:49	but together find out for ourselves	પણ ભેગા મળીને આપણે પોતાના માટે
	and then act, not say,	શોધી કાઢીએ અને પછી કાર્ય કરીએ,

40:55	‘Yes, quite right’. But act.	માત્ર 'હા, બિલકુલ સાચું'
		એમ કહીએ એટલું જ નહીં. પણ કાર્ય કરીએ.

41:03	We are going to go into that.	આપણે આમાં આગળ જઈશું.

41:05	What is thinking?	વિચારવું એટલે શું?

41:09	Don’t you think?	તમે વિચારતા નથી?

41:12	Otherwise you would not be here.	નહીંતર તમે અહીં ન હોત.

41:18	You made arrangements	તમે અમુક ચોક્કસ સમયે અહીં આવવાની
	to come here at a certain time	વ્યવસ્થા કરી છે,

41:27	and you have also made	અને પાછા જવાની વ્યવસ્થા પણ કરી છે.
	arrangements to go back.

41:31	That is thinking.	તે છે વિચારવું.

41:37	Thinking philosophically –	તત્ત્વજ્ઞાનની રીતે જોતાં વિચારવું -

41:41	philosophy means	તત્ત્વજ્ઞાન એટલે
	the love of truth, the love of life,	સત્ય પ્રત્યે પ્રેમ, જીવન પ્રત્યે પ્રેમ,

41:50	not passing some exam	યુનિવર્સીટીમાં કોઈ પરીક્ષા પાસ કરવી તે નહીં.
	in a university.

42:00	So let us find out together,	માટે ચાલો, સાથે મળીને શોધી કાઢીએ
	what is thinking.	કે વિચારવું એટલે શું.

42:07	If you had no memory of yesterday	જો તમારી પાસે ગઈકાલની અથવા
	or what will happen tomorrow –	આવતીકાલે શું થવાનું છે એની

42:19	no memory at all,	કોઈ સ્મૃતિ ન હોય, તો તમે વિચારો ખરા?
	of any kind, would you think?

42:25	You understand?	તમે સમજો છો?
	Oh, come on, sirs –	ઓહ, સાહેબ -

42:30	would you think, and act thereby,	જો તમને કશી સ્મૃતિ ન હોય
	if you had no memory?	તો તમે વિચારીને તે મુજબ કાર્ય કરશો?

42:40	Of course not.	અલબત્ત, નહીં.
	What are you hesitating about?	તમે અચકાવ છો શા માટે?

42:46	You can’t think	જો તમારી પાસે કોઈ સ્મૃતિ ન હોય
	if you have no memory. Right?	તો તમે વિચારી ન શકો. ખરું?

42:50	So what is memory?	તો સ્મૃતિ એટલે શું?

42:52	Now you are stumped.	હવે તમે મૂંઝાયા છો.

42:56	What is memory?	સ્મૃતિ એટલે શું?

42:59	You did something yesterday	તમે ગઈકાલે કંઈક કર્યું

43:03	and what you did is registered	અને તમે જે કર્યું એની મગજમાં છાપ પડી,
	in the brain,

43:08	which becomes a memory,	તે સ્મૃતિ બને છે,

43:10	and according to the memory	અને સ્મૃતિ મુજબ તમે વિચારો છો
	you think and act. Right?	અને કાર્ય કરો છો. બરાબર?

43:17	So, what is memory?	તો, સ્મૃતિ એટલે શું?
	How does it come about?	તે કેવી રીતે પેદા થાય છે?

43:25	You remember somebody	કોઈ તમારાં વખાણ કરતું હોય
	flattering you,	તે તમને યાદ આવે,

43:29	you remember somebody	કોઈ તમને દુભાવતું હોય
	hurting you,	તે તમને યાદ આવે,

43:34	saying ugly things about you,	તમારે વિષે ખરાબ બોલતું હોય,

43:37	or flattering you	અથવા તમે કોઈ પુસ્તક લખ્યું હોય
	because you have written a book.	એનાં વખાણ કરતુ હોય તે યાદ આવે.

43:45	So you remember – memory.	એટલે તમે યાદ કરો છો – તે છે સ્મૃતિ.

43:49	That is, memory is the outcome	એનો અર્થ કે સ્મૃતિ માહિતીનું પરિણામ છે.
	of knowledge. Right?	ખરું?

43:57	Right?	બરાબર?
	Oh, lord!	ઓ પ્રભુ!

44:01	That is, you insulted me;	એટલે કે, તમે મારું અપમાન કર્યું,

44:09	it is registered on the brain	તેની મારા મગજમાં સ્મૃતિ તરીકે છાપ પડી.
	as a memory.

44:15	That insult or flattery,	તે અપમાન કે વખાણ,
	whatever it is, is registered	જે હોય તે,

44:22	which becomes the memory.	તેની છાપ સ્મૃતિ બને છે.

44:24	That is, the knowledge of that	એટલે કે તે બનાવની માહિતી સ્મૃતિ બને છે.
	incident becomes memory.

44:33	I have an accident in a car,	મને ગાડીમાં અકસ્માત થાય છે,
	that accident is registered	તે અકસ્માતની મગજમાં,

44:40	in the brain, in the brain cells,	મગજના કોષોમાં છાપ પડે છે,
	and then it says,	અને પછી તે કહે છે,

44:47	‘Yes that is memory,	'હા, તે સ્મૃતિ છે. મને અકસ્માત થયો,
	I’ve had an accident,

44:49	I must drive carefully’.	મારે ગાડી સાચવીને ચલાવવી જોઈએ'.
	Right?	ખરું?

44:53	So, out of knowledge	માટે માહિતીમાંથી સ્મૃતિ આવે છે.
	comes memory. Right?	બરાબર છે?

45:01	Clear?	સ્પષ્ટ છે?

45:03	From memory, thought.	સ્મૃતિમાંથી વિચાર આવે છે.

45:08	Now, what is knowledge?	હવે, માહિતી એટલે શું?

45:11	This is rather difficult.	આ જરા અઘરું છે.

45:14	We all accumulate knowledge,	આપણે બધા માહિતીનો સંચય કરીએ છીએ,
	the great scholars,	મહાન વિદ્વાનો,

45:19	great professors, scientists,	મહાન પ્રાધ્યાપકો, વૈજ્ઞાનિકો
	acquire tremendous knowledge.	અસાધારણ માહિતી પ્રાપ્ત કરે છે.

45:26	Do you understand?	તમે સમજો છો?
	What is knowledge?	માહિતી એટલે શું?

45:30	How does it come about	કેવી રીતે તમને માહિતી મળે છે?
	you have knowledge?

45:37	Haven’t you thought about	તમે ક્યારેય આ બધા વિષે વિચાર્યું નથી,
	all this, looked at all this?	આ બધું જોયું નથી?

45:44	Knowledge comes	જયારે અનુભવ થાય છે
	when there is experience. Right?	ત્યારે માહિતી ઉપજે છે. ખરું?

45:49	You have an accident in a car,	તમને ગાડીમાં અકસ્માત થયો,
	that becomes…

45:52	the accident, that’s an experience.	તે અકસ્માત એક અનુભવ છે.
	Right?	બરાબર?

46:03	From that experience	અનુભવમાંથી તમને માહિતી મળે છે
	you have knowledge

46:07	and from that knowledge	અને તે માહિતીમાંથી તમને સ્મૃતિ મળે છે;
	you have memory;

46:11	from memory,	તે સ્મૃતિમાંથી તમને વિચાર મળે છે.
	you have thought. Right?	બરાબર?

46:15	Be careful.	સાવચેતી રાખો.
	Don’t agree yet or disagree.	તરત સંમત કે અસંમત ન થાવ.

46:18	I am going to pull the rug	હું તમારા પગ નીચેનું પાથરણું
	under your feet.	ખેંચી લેવાનો છું.

46:24	So, what is experience,	તો, અનુભવ શું છે,
	which is that incident – right? –	તે છે એ બનાવ - બરાબર? -

46:31	accident in a car,	ગાડીમાં અકસ્માત,

46:34	which is registered in the brain	જે મગજમાં માહિતી તરીકે
	as knowledge? Right?	નોંધાયેલો છે. ખરું?

46:40	And so on – knowledge…	અને એવી રીતે - માહિતી...

46:42	experience – knowledge –	અનુભવ - માહિતી -
	memory – thought. Clear?	સ્મૃતિ - વિચાર. ખરું?

46:50	This is logical.	આ તર્કસંગત છે.

46:52	Not my way of looking at it	આમાં મારી જોવાની રીત કે
	or your way of looking at it.	તમારી જોવાની રીત એવું કશું નથી.

46:58	So, all experience	માટે, સઘળો અનુભવ સીમિત છે,
	whether it is god’s experience	તે ઈશ્વરનો અનુભવ હોય

47:03	or your experience,	કે તમારો અનુભવ હોય.
	is limited. Yes?	સાચું?

47:14	Right? Would you agree,	બરાબર? તમે સંમત થશો,
	would you see that?	તમે તે જોશો?

47:19	All experience.	સઘળો અનુભવ.
	Because, you look at it,	કારણ કે તમે જુઓ છો કે

47:23	the scientists are adding every day	વૈજ્ઞાનિકો એમાં રોજેરોજ વધુ ને વધુ
	more and more and more.	ઉમેરો કરતા જાય છે.

47:29	Right?	ખરું?

47:31	That which is added to,	જેનામાં ઉમેરો થાય તે
	is always limited. Right?	હંમેશ સીમિત જ હોય. ખરું?

47:36	Don’t agree.	સંમત ન થાવ.
	Look at it, look at it.	તેને જુઓ, તેને જુઓ.

47:42	‘I know little, and I must know more’,	'હું થોડું જાણું છું, અને મારે વધુ જાણવું જોઇએ',
	you are adding.	તમે ઉમેરો કરી રહ્યા છો.

47:49	Right?	ખરું?

47:51	That which you add to,	જેમાં તમે ઉમેરો કરો છો,
	must be limited.	તે સીમિત જ હોવું જોઈએ.

48:02	Oh, lord! Right?	ઓ પ્રભુ! ખરું?

48:04	Q: Right.	પ્રશ્નકર્તા: ખરું.

48:07	K: So, experience	કૃષ્ણમૂર્તિ: એટલે, અનુભવ
	is always limited.	હંમેશાં સીમિત છે.

48:15	Your experience of god	તમારો ઈશ્વરનો અનુભવ

48:17	– I don’t know what that means,	- મને ખબર નથી કે તેનો શો અર્થ છે,
	but it doesn’t matter –	પણ કશો વાંધો નહીં -

48:21	your experience of something	તમારો કોઈ પણ વસ્તુનો અનુભવ
	is always limited,	જેમાં કંઈક વધુ ઉમેરી શકાય,

48:25	where there’s something	તે હંમેશાં સીમિત છે.
	more to be added.

48:29	So, experience is limited,	એટલે, અનુભવ સીમિત છે,
	knowledge is limited –	માહિતી સીમિત છે -

48:38	forever, not just future knowledge,	સદાકાળ, માત્ર ભવિષ્યની માહિતી જ નહીં,
	it is always limited.	તે હંમેશાં સીમિત છે.

48:44	Therefore memory is limited	માટે સ્મૃતિ સીમિત છે
	and so thought is limited.	અને તેથી વિચાર સીમિત છે.

48:51	Right? Thought is limited.	ખરું? વિચાર સીમિત છે.

48:58	And where there is limitation,	અને જ્યાં સીમા છે,
	there is division. Right?	ત્યાં વિભાજન છે. ખરું?

49:07	As the Sikh, the Hindu,	શીખ, હિન્દુ,
	the Buddhist, the Muslim,	બૌદ્ધ, મુસલમાન,

49:12	the Christian, the Democratic party,	ખ્રિસ્તી, લોકશાહી દળ,
	Republican party, Communist.	લોકસત્તા દળ, સામ્યવાદી વગેરે.

49:20	You understand?	તમે સમજો છો?
	They are all based on thought.	તે બધા વિચાર ઉપર આધારિત છે.

49:25	Therefore all the governments	માટે બધી જ સરકારો સીમિત છે.
	are limited.

49:29	All your activity is limited,	તમારી બધી પ્રવૃત્તિઓ સીમિત છે,

49:34	whether you think most abstractly	તમે બિલકુલ તાત્ત્વિક રીતે વિચારો
	or try to be very noble,	કે બહુ પ્રભાવી થવાનો પ્રયત્ન કરો,

49:39	it is still thinking. Right?	તે વિચાર જ છે. ખરું?

49:45	So from that limited	એટલે કે વિચારવાના
	quality of thinking –	સીમિત લક્ષણમાંથી આવતાં -

49:49	and thinking is always limited	અને વિચારવું હંમેશાં સીમિત છે
	– our actions are limited.	- આપણાં કાર્યો સીમિત છે.

49:55	Right?	બરાબર?

49:59	Now, from that you begin	હવે, તેમાંથી તમે
	to enquire very carefully:	કાળજીપૂર્વક તપાસવાનું શરુ કરો:

50:05	can thought have its right place	શું વિચારનું પોતાનું
		કોઈ ઉચિત સ્થાન સંભવે છે,

50:09	and have no other place at all?	અને એનું બીજું કોઈ સ્થાન જ ન હોય?
	You understand my question?	તમે મારો પ્રશ્ન સમજો છો?

50:14	No, no, don’t go to sleep, please.	ના, ના, મહેરબાની કરીને ઊંઘી ન જાવ.

50:19	I need thought to come here.	અહીં આવવા માટે મારે વિચારની જરૂર છે.

50:22	I had to get up at a certain time	મારે અમુક સમયે ઊઠવું પડ્યું - વગેરે.
	– all the rest of it.

50:26	You had, too.	તમારે પણ.
	You have to think there.	ત્યાં તમારે વિચાર કરવો પડ્યો.

50:35	So is there an action	તો એવું કોઈ કાર્ય છે
	which is free of limitation?	જે સીમાથી મુક્ત હોય?

50:48	You think it out a minute	તમે એક મિનિટ વિચાર કરો
	– I’ll give you...	- હું તમને આપીશ...

50:50	Think it out, look at it carefully.	પૂરેપૂરો વિચાર કરો,
		કાળજીપૂર્વક તેને જુઓ.

50:56	That is,	તેનો અર્થ એ કે

51:03	thinking being limited,	વિચારવું સીમિત હોવાને લીધે
	we have reduced the whole universe	આપણે સમસ્ત સૃષ્ટિને

51:09	into a very small affair.	એક અતિશય નાની ઘટનાના સ્તરે
	You understand?	નીચે લાવી દીધી છે. તમે સમજો છો?

51:15	We have made our life	આપણે આપણા જીવનને એક અતિશય
	into such a small affair.	નાની બાબત બનાવી દીધી છે.

51:20	I think I must be this,	મને લાગે છે કે મારે આવા હોવું જોઈએ,
	I must not be that,	તેવા ન હોવું જોઈએ,

51:23	I must have power,	મારે સત્તા જોઈએ,
	I mustn’t… You follow?	ન જોઈએ... સમજો છો તમે?

51:28	We have reduced	આપણે પ્રચંડ ગુણધર્મવાળા જીવનને
	the enormous quality of life	એક અતિશય નાની,

51:33	into a very small petty	મામૂલી, નિંદ્ય ઘટનાના સ્તરે
	little affair. Right?	નીચું લાવી દીધું છે. ખરું?

51:44	So, is it possible	તો, વિચારથી મુક્ત થવું શક્ય છે?
	to be free of thought?

51:55	Which means I must think	એનો અર્થ એ કે મારે અહીં આવવા માટે
	to come here.	વિચાર કરવો પડે.

52:00	If I am a bureaucrat,	જો હું અમલદાર હોઉં, તો મારે
	I must think in terms of bureaucracy.	અમલદારશાહીની બાબતમાં વિચાર કરવો પડે.

52:09	If I go to the factory	જો હું કારખાનામાં કામ કરતો હોઉં,
	and turn the screw,

52:13	I must have certain knowledge.	તો મારી પાસે અમુક પ્રકારની માહિતી હોવી જોઈએ.

52:18	Why should I have knowledge	મારી પાસે મારી જાત માટે માહિતી
	about myself?	શું કામ હોવી જોઈએ?

52:24	Oh, you people.	ઓ ભલા માણસો.
	You understand my question?	તમે સમજો છો મારો પ્રશ્ન?

52:29	Higher self, lower self	ઊંચી જાત, નીચી જાત
	and all that stuff.	અને એવું બધું.

52:36	Why should I have knowledge	મારે એ બાબતની માહિતી
	about it? It is very simple.	શા માટે જોઈએ? તે બહુ સહેલું છે.

52:40	I am self-interested.	હું સ્વાર્થવૃત્તિવાળો છું.

52:44	I am only concerned	હકીકતમાં મને માત્ર
	with myself actually.	મારી જાત સાથે જ નિસબત છે.

52:48	We may pretend	આપણે ભાઈચારો હોવાનો ડોળ કરીએ,
	to have brotherhood,

52:50	or may talk about peace,	અથવા શાંતિની વાતો કરીએ,
	we may do every kind of

52:54	verbal explaining in many words,	આપણે જાતજાતના શબ્દોમાં સમજાવીએ,

53:01	but we are always self-centred.	પણ આપણે હંમેશાં આત્મકેન્દ્રી છીએ.
	Right?	ખરું?

53:11	So from that arises the question:	માટે તેમાંથી પ્રશ્ન ઉદ્ભવે છે:

53:23	can the self-centredness,	શું આત્મકેન્દ્રીપણું,

53:27	which is essentially	જે અનિવાર્યપણે ઊંડો સ્વાર્થ છે,
	deep selfishness,

53:35	can there be a change at all?	એમાં ફેરફાર શક્ય છે?
	You understand?	તમે સમજો છો?

53:44	Can we be utterly selfless?	શું આપણે તદ્દન નિઃસ્વાર્થ હોઈ શકીએ?

53:55	Answer, sirs.	જવાબ આપો.
	So we have to enquire:	તો આપણે તપાસવું પડશે:

53:58	what is the self?	સ્વ એટલે શું?
	Right, sir?	ખરું, સાહેબ?

54:04	What are you,	તમે શું છો,
	apart from your name and profession	તમારા નામ, વ્યવસાય,

54:11	and your vows and	તમારી પ્રતિજ્ઞાઓ અને
	following some guru or other,	કોઈ ગુરુને અનુસરવા સિવાય,

54:15	what are you?	તમે શું છો?

54:32	Tell me.	મને કહો.

54:36	Apart from your profession,	તમારા વ્યવસાય સિવાય,
	apart from your name –	તમારા નામ સિવાય -

54:39	or put it the other way:	અથવા આને બીજી રીતે મૂકીએ:
	are you your name?	શું તમે તમારું નામ છો?

54:45	Are you your profession?	શું તમે તમારો વ્યવસાય છો?

54:49	Or are you part of the community?	શું તમે કોઈ સમુદાયના ભાગ છો?

54:54	Or are you part of the tradition?	કે કોઈ પરંપરાના ભાગ છો?

54:58	Hindu – that is a tradition, a name.	હિન્દુ - એ એક પરંપરા છે, એક નામ છે.

55:07	So, what are you?	તો, તમે શું છો?

55:11	Don’t repeat what Gita says,	ગીતા, ઉપનિષદ, અથવા
	Upanishad says,	બીજા કોઈએ કહ્યું હોય,

55:14	or somebody says.	એનું એ જ ફરી ન કહો.
	That’s futile.	તે વ્યર્થ છે.

55:19	Actually what are you?	હકીકતમાં તમે શું છો?

55:27	God, what’s the matter	પ્રભુ, તમને બધાને શું થયું છે?
	with all of you?

55:30	Is this the first time this question	શું આ પ્રશ્ન પહેલી જ વાર
	is being put to you?	તમારી સામે મૂકાઈ રહ્યો છે?

55:37	What am I?	શું છો તમે?

55:46	Aren’t you fear?	તમે ભય નથી?

55:52	Aren’t you your name?	તમે તમારું નામ નથી?

55:59	Aren’t you your body?	તમે તમારું શરીર નથી?

56:04	Aren’t you what you think you are?	તમે પોતાની બાબતમાં
		જે વિચારો છો તે તમે નથી?

56:09	The image you have built	તમે તમારી પોતાની જાત વિષે
	about yourself – aren’t you that?	જે માનસિક ચિત્ર બનાવ્યું છે - તે તમે નથી?

56:16	Aren’t you your anger?	તમે તમારો ક્રોધ નથી?
	Or you say,	અથવા તો તમે કહો છો કે,

56:20	‘No, anger is separate from me’.	'ના, ક્રોધ મારાથી અલગ છે.'
	Come on, sir.	આગળ વધો, સાહેબ.

56:28	Aren’t you your fears,	તમે તમારા ભયો,
	your ambitions, your greed,	તમારી મહત્ત્વાકાંક્ષાઓ, તમારો લોભ,

56:33	your competition, your uncertainty,	તમારી સ્પર્ધા, તમારી અનિશ્ચિતતા,
	your confusion,	તમારી ગૂંચવણ,

56:39	your pain, your sorrow?	તમારી પીડા, તમારું દુઃખ નથી?
	Aren’t you all that?	શું તમે આ બધું નથી?

56:46	Aren’t you the guru you follow –	જે ગુરુને તમે અનુસરો છો તે અને

56:49	and all kind of stuff	ભાતભાતની વસ્તુઓ જેને તમે
	you put around your neck?	ગળે વળગાડી રાખી છે તે તમે નથી?

56:57	So, when you identify	એટલે કે, જયારે તમે તેની સાથે
	yourself with that,	એકરૂપ થાવ છો,

57:02	that is, your fear, your pleasure,	ત્યારે - તમારો ભય, તમારી ખુશી,
	your pain, your sorrow,	તમારી પીડા, તમારું દુઃખ,

57:08	your affection,	તમારી મમતા,
	your rudeness – all that,	તમારી તોછડાઈ - તે બધું,

57:13	aren’t you all that?	શું તમે તે બધું નથી?

57:17	Or are you something high up,	કે તમે કશુંક ઉચ્ચ છો,

57:27	super-self,	ઉચ્ચ-સ્વ,
	super-consciousness?	ઉચ્ચ-ચેતના?

57:32	If you say you are	જો તમે કહો કે તમે
	super-consciousness, higher self,	ઉચ્ચ-ચેતના, ઉચ્ચ-સ્વ છો,

57:36	that is also part of thinking;	તો તે પણ તમારા વિચારવાનો ભાગ છે;

57:39	therefore what you call	એટલા માટે જેને તમે ઉચ્ચ વિચારક
	higher thinker, higher self,	કે ઉચ્ચ-આત્મા કહો છો,

57:43	is still very small.	તે ઘણી નાની બાબત છે.

57:51	So what am I?	તો હું શું છું?

57:56	Go on, sir, don’t go to sleep.	આગળ ચાલો, સાહેબ, ઊંઘી ન જાવ.

57:59	What’s the time, sir?	સમય શો થયો છે, સાહેબ?

58:01	Q: Ten minutes to ten, sir.	પ્રશ્નકર્તા: દસમાં દસ મિનિટ બાકી છે, સાહેબ.
	Q: Nine fifty five.	પ્રશ્નકર્તા: નવ પંચાવન.

58:06	K: We have talked nearly an hour?	કૃષ્ણમૂર્તિ: આપણે લગભગ એક કલાક વાત કરી?
	Q: Yes, sir.	પ્રશ્નકર્તા: હા, સાહેબ.

58:12	K: Goodness! I don’t know	કૃષ્ણમૂર્તિ: ભલા માણસ! હું જાણતો નથી
	if you think it’s worthwhile.	કે તમને આ બધું યોગ્ય લાગે છે કે કેમ.

58:20	I am saying, you are a bundle	હું કહું છું કે તમે આ બધાનું પોટલું છો.
	of all that. Right?	ખરું?

58:29	Put together by thought –	વિચાર દ્વારા એકત્ર કરાયેલું -
	I am a Hindu, I am a Brahman,	હું હિન્દુ છું, હું બ્રાહ્મણ છું,

58:35	I am not Brahman,	હું બ્રાહ્મણ નથી,
	I am anti-Brahman,	હું બ્રાહ્મણ-વિરોધી છું,

58:39	and I want to be prime minister,	અને મારે વડાપ્રધાન થવું છે,

58:43	I want to have a bigger position,	મારે વધુ મોટી પદવી જોઈએ છે,
	I want power, position.	મારે જોઈએ છે સત્તા, હોદ્દો.

58:48	Right? Don’t say no.	ખરું? ના ન કહેતા.
	You want all those.	તમારે આ બધું જોઈએ છે.

58:53	You want nearer	તમે ઈશ્વરની, તમારા ગુરુની
	to be god, your guru,	અધિક સમીપ જવા ઈચ્છો છો

58:57	and therefore what he says,	અને તેથી ગુરુ જે કહે તેનું પાલન કરો છો,
	you follow,

59:01	and you are uncertain,	અને તમે અનિશ્ચિત, વ્યાકુળ,

59:08	in pain, anxiety.	પીડાગ્રસ્ત, વ્યગ્ર છો.
	Right? You are all that.	ખરું? તમે તે સઘળું છો.

59:14	Whatever you think,	તમે જે કંઈ વિચારો,
	you are. Right?	તે તમે છો. ખરું?

59:20	You may invent	તમે જાતભાતની ચીજવસ્તુઓના
	all kinds of stuff,	આવિષ્કાર કરો,

59:22	but that invention too	પરંતુ તે આવિષ્કાર પણ
	is what you are. Right?	તમે છો. ખરું?

59:31	So another very, very	હવે, બીજો ઘણો જ વિકટ પ્રશ્ન -
	complicated question –

59:35	I won’t go into now	હું અત્યારે એમાં નહીં જાઉં
	because it is nearly time:	કારણ કે સમય લગભગ સમાપ્ત થઇ ગયો છે:

59:41	who has put all this together?	કોણે આ બધું એકત્ર કર્યું છે?

59:46	Putting it all together is called me,	આ બધું એકત્ર કરવાને કહેવાય છે હું,
	myself, my ego,	મારી જાત, મારો અહં,

59:50	my personality, my higher self,	મારું વ્યક્તિત્વ, ઉચ્ચ-સ્વ, મારો ઈશ્વર,
	my god, you know, Atman –	તમે જાણો છો, આત્મા -

59:57	I invent all this kind of stuff.	હું આવી બધી ચીજવસ્તુઓના આવિષ્કાર કરું છું.

1:00:07	Or is there only one structure?	અથવા માત્ર એક જ રચના છે?

	We have separated all this.	આપણે આ બધું અલગ કર્યું છે.

	in my relationship with you,	હું સલામત રહેવા ચાહું છું,

1:03:31	with my wife – she is mine.	મારી પત્ની સાથે - તે મારી છે.
	Right?	ખરું?

1:03:39	Secure. Right, sir?	સલામતી. ખરું, સાહેબ?

1:03:41	Secure, protected, safe,	સલામત, સુરક્ષિત, નિશ્ચિંત,
	some place I must have that.	કોઈ સ્થાન મારે એવું જોઈએ.

1:03:49	Right? At home –	ખરું? ઘરે -
	it is rather difficult in a factory	કોઈ કારખાનામાં અથવા

1:03:53	or in a bureaucratic structure.	અમલદારશાહી રચનામાં આ અઘરું છે.

1:03:57	The desire, the urge, the response,	ઇચ્છા, પ્રેરક બળ, પ્રતિભાવ,

1:04:00	the reaction is safety –	પ્રતિક્રિયા છે સુરક્ષા -
	I must be safe, secure. Right?	મારે સલામત હોવું જોઈએ. ખરું?

1:04:52	Is there anywhere	એવું કોઈ પણ સ્થાન છે,
	I can say I’m safe?	જ્યાં હું કહી શકું કે, 'હું સલામત છું'?

1:05:01	You distrust your wife,	તમને તમારી પત્નીનો વિશ્વાસ નથી,
	your wife distrusts you.	તમારી પત્નીને તમારો વિશ્વાસ નથી.

1:05:06	You distrust your boss,	તમે તમારા ઉપરીનો અવિશ્વાસ કરો છો,
	because you want his place.	કારણ કે તમારે એનું સ્થાન જોઈએ છે.

1:05:15	It is all so common sense.	આ બધી સામાન્ય સમજણની વાત છે.
	You like to be gurus –	તમને ગુરુ બનવું ગમે છે -

1:05:24	for god’s sake!	ભગવાનને ખાતર!

1:05:30	So, each human being in the world	એટલે દુનિયાનો દરેક માણસ

1:05:35	– you may laugh at it now –	- ભલે તમે અત્યારે હસો -
	each human being in the world	દુનિયાનો દરેક માણસ

1:05:41	wants to have a place	એવું સ્થાન ચાહે છે,
	where he can be safe, secure,	જ્યાં તે સલામત, નિશ્ચિંત રહી શકે,

1:05:49	where there is no competition,	જ્યાં કોઈ હરીફાઈ ન હોય,

1:05:52	where he is not pushed around,	જ્યાં તેને આમતેમ ધકેલવામાં ન આવે,
	where he is not harassed.	જ્યાં તેને કનડવામાં ન આવે.

1:05:59	Don’t you want all that?	શું તમે આ બધું નથી ચાહતા?

1:06:05	If you are honest, for a change,	જો તમે પ્રામાણિક હો, થોડાક ફેરફાર ખાતર,
	don’t you want all that?	તો તમારે આ બધું નથી જોઈતું?

1:06:13	Yes. But you never ask:	હા. પણ તમે ક્યારેય પૂછતા નથી:
	is there security at all?	કયાંયેય સલામતી છે ખરી?

1:06:21	We want something –	આપણે કશુંક જોઈએ છે -
	it may be illusory.	તે ભ્રમ હોઈ શકે.

1:06:26	I want god,	મારે ઈશ્વર જોઈએ છે,
	but we have created god.	પણ ઈશ્વરનું સર્જન આપણે કર્યું છે.

1:06:34	So, you want security,	માટે, તમારે સલામતી જોઈએ છે,
	and you also must ask:	અને તમારે એ પણ પૂછવું જોઈએ:

1:06:40	is there security at all?	સલામતી કયાંયેય છે ખરી?
	If you want your security,	જો તમને તમારી સલામતી જોઈતી હોય,

1:06:46	you must also ask	તો તમારે આ બીજો પ્રશ્ન પણ
	the other question.	પૂછવો જ જોઈએ.

1:06:48	You can’t say,	'મારે સલામતી જોઈએ છે',
	‘I want security’ and hold on.	એમ કહીને તમે અટકી ન જઈ શકો.

1:06:54	Is there security at all?	ક્યાંય પણ સલામતી છે ખરી?

1:07:00	Then, the question arises:	પછી, પ્રશ્ન ઉદ્ભવે છે:
	why do you want security?	કેમ તમારે સલામતી જોઈએ છે?

1:07:07	Is there security	તમારા વિચારવામાં સલામતી છે?
	in your thinking?

1:07:15	Is there security	તમારા સંબંધોમાં સલામતી છે?
	in your relationship?

1:07:20	Not with me – with your wife	મારી સાથે નહીં - તમારી પત્ની સાથે,
	and with your children.	તમારાં સંતાનો સાથે.

1:07:26	Is there security in your job?	તમારી નોકરીમાં સલામતી છે?

1:07:31	You may be a professor,	તમે પ્રાધ્યાપક હો,

1:07:33	carefully protected	ઘણા સુરક્ષિત હો,
	once you become a professor,

1:07:38	but they are higher professors.	પણ તમારાથી ઉપર ઘણા પ્રાધ્યાપકો છે.

1:07:41	You want to become Vice Chancellor.	તમારે ઉપકુલપતિ બનવું છે.
	You know the game.	તમે આ રમત જાણો છો.

1:07:48	So where is there security?	તો ક્યાં છે સલામતી?

1:07:54	Or there may be	અથવા તો કયાંયેય
	no security at all.	કોઈ સલામતી હોય જ નહીં.

1:07:59	Just think about it, sir.	જરા આનો વિચાર કરો, સાહેબ.
	See the beauty of that.	આનું સૌન્દર્ય જુઓ.

1:08:03	Having no desire for security.	સલામતીની કોઈ ઈચ્છા ન હોવી.

1:08:14	Having no urge,	કોઈ ઝંખના નહીં,

1:08:16	no feeling of any kind	કોઈ પ્રકારની લાગણી નહીં
	in which there is security –	જેમાં સલામતી હોય -

1:08:22	in your vows, in your offices,	તમારી પ્રતિજ્ઞાઓમાં, તમારી કચેરીઓમાં,
	in your factory,	તમારા કારખાનામાં,

1:08:29	in your parliament and so on.	તમારી સંસદમાં, વગેરે.
	Is there security?	સલામતી છે ખરી?

1:08:35	Life may not have security.	જીવનમાં સલામતી ન હોય એવું હોઈ શકે.
	Life is meant to be lived.	જીવન જીવવા માટે છે.

1:08:46	Not to create problems	નહીં કે પ્રશ્નો સર્જવા માટે
	and then try to solve them.	અને પછી તેને ઉકેલવા માટે.

1:08:50	Not to have sorrow, pain.	દુઃખ, પીડા હોય તે માટે નહીં.

1:08:52	It is meant to be lived,	તે જીવવા માટે છે,
	and it will die.	અને તેનું મૃત્યુ થશે.

1:09:02	That is one of our fears,	તે આપણા ભયોમાંનો એક છે,
	to die. Right?	મૃત્યુ પામવું. ખરું?

	what the speaker is talking about?	તે શું આપણે સાંભળ્યું છે ખરું?

1:09:40	Heard with the ear?	કાનથી સાંભળ્યું છે?

1:09:46	Have you seen the facts of the world,	શું તમે દુનિયાની હકીકતો જોઈ છે,

1:09:52	which is you – the world is you –	જે તમે છો - દુનિયા તમે છો -

1:09:56	have you seen the facts of all that?	શું તમે આ બધાની હકીકતો નિહાળી છે?

1:09:59	Or are they all ideas?	કે આ બધી કલ્પનાઓ છે?

1:10:03	There is a difference	કલ્પના અને હકીકત વચ્ચે ફેર છે.
	between fact and idea.

1:10:10	The idea is never the fact.	કલ્પના ક્યારેય હકીકત નથી હોતી.

1:10:14	The microphone,	માઈક્રોફોન,
	this thing in front of the speaker,	વક્તાની સામે રહેલી આ વસ્તુ,

1:10:21	the word ‘microphone’	શબ્દ 'માઈક્રોફોન'
	is not the thing. Right?	તે વસ્તુ નથી. ખરું?

1:10:27	The word is not the thing,	શબ્દ એ વસ્તુ નથી,

1:10:34	but we have made	પણ આપણે શબ્દને
	the word the thing.	વસ્તુ બનાવી દીધી છે.

1:10:39	You understand what I am saying?	તમે સમજો છો હું કહું છું તે?

1:10:43	So, the Hindu is not you.	એટલે કે, તમે હિન્દુ નથી.

1:10:51	The word is not you.	શબ્દ તમે નથી.

1:10:56	You are the fact, not the word.	તમે હકીકત છો, શબ્દ નથી.

1:11:01	I wonder if you see all this.	મને આશ્ચર્ય છે કે
		તમે આ બધું જુઓ છો કે નહીં.

1:11:05	So, can we see the word,	તો, આપણે શબ્દને જોઈ શકીએ,

1:11:10	and see the word	અને એ જોઈ શકીએ
	is not the thing?	કે શબ્દ એ વસ્તુ નથી?

1:11:18	The word ‘god’ is not god.	શબ્દ 'ઈશ્વર' એ ઈશ્વર નથી.

1:11:24	The word is different totally	શબ્દ વાસ્તવિકતાથી
	from the reality. Right?	તદ્દન અલગ છે. ખરું?

1:11:32	So, we are most	માટે, આપણે બિલકુલ
	respectfully asking:	આદરપૂર્વક પૂછીએ છીએ:

1:11:38	what have you learnt this morning?	તમે આજની સવારે શું શીખ્યા છો?

1:11:40	Actually learnt,	વાસ્તવિક રીતે શીખ્યા છો,
	so that you act?	જેનાથી તમે કાર્ય કરી શકો?

1:11:47	Not say, ‘Yes,	એમ નહીં કે માત્ર કહેવું, 'હા,
	quite right, quite right’,	બિલકુલ ખરું, બિલકુલ ખરું',

1:11:49	and go home and carry on.	અને ઘરે જવું અને એમનું એમ જીવવું.

1:12:02	So unless we act,	એટલે આપણે કાર્ય ન કરીએ,
	the world is in a great chaos –	ત્યાં સુધી દુનિયામાં અરાજકતા જ રહેવાની છે -

1:12:10	I don’t know if you realise it.	હું જાણતો નથી કે તમે
		આ સ્પષ્ટપણે સમજો છો કે કેમ.

1:12:14	There is great trouble in the world,	જગતમાં ઘણી મુશ્કેલીઓ,
	great misery.	ઘણી વિટંબણાઓ છે.

1:12:25	And the world is you,	અને દુનિયા છો તમે,
	because you are in misery,	કારણ કે તમે વિટંબણામાં છો,

1:12:31	you are confused,	તમે વ્યગ્ર છો,
	you are all this,	તમે આ બધું છો,

1:12:34	therefore you are creating	માટે તમે તમારી આસપાસ
	the world around you.	આ જગત બનાવો છો.

1:12:38	You understand what I am saying?	હું શું કહું છું એ તમે સમજો છો?
	God’s sake, sir!	ભગવાનને ખાતર, સાહેબ!

1:12:47	If you don’t alter,	જો તમારામાં પરિવર્તન ન થાય,
	the world cannot alter, change.	તો દુનિયામાં પરિવર્તન કે ફેરફાર થઇ ન શકે.

1:12:55	Because the world, everywhere you go,	કેમ કે દુનિયામાં તમે જ્યાં જાવ ત્યાં

1:13:00	every human being in the world	દરેક માણસ એ જ ઘટનામાંથી
	goes through the same phenomenon	પસાર થઇ રહ્યો છે

1:13:06	as you are going through:	જેમાંથી તમે પસાર થઇ રહ્યા છો:
	uncertain, unhappy, fearful,	અનિશ્ચિત, દુઃખી, ભયભીત,

1:13:11	insecure, wanting security,	અસુરક્ષિત, સલામતી ઇચ્છતો,
	trying to control,	નિયંત્રણ માટે મથતો,

1:13:15	trying to say,	એમ કહેવા મથતો કે
	‘That guru is better than my guru’	'પેલો ગુરુ મારા ગુરુ કરતાં વધુ સારો છે',

1:13:20	and so on, so on,	અને એવું જ બધું
	– creating wars.	- યુદ્ધો સર્જતો.

1:13:27	You understand, sir?	તમે સમજો છો, સાહેબ?

1:13:32	The speaker is not	વક્તા આશાવાદી કે
	an optimist or a pessimist –	નિરાશાવાદી નથી -

1:13:36	we are presenting you with the facts.	અમે તમારી સમક્ષ હકીકતો રજૂ કરી રહ્યાં છીએ.

1:13:42	Not newspaper facts.	વર્તમાનપત્રોની હકીકતો નહીં.

1:13:51	We are talking	આપણે આપણા જીવનની હકીકતોની
	about facts of our life,	વાત કરી રહ્યાં છીએ,

1:14:01	not the life of a guru or the emperor	કોઈ ગુરુના કે કોઈ સમ્રાટના
	or somebody or other.	કે બીજા કોઈના જીવનની નહીં.

1:14:07	We are talking together	આપણે સાથે મળીને
	about your life.	તમારા જીવન વિષે વાત કરી રહ્યાં છીએ.

1:14:15	Your life is like	તમારું જીવન બાકીની દુનિયા જેવું છે.
	the rest of the world.

1:14:20	They are terribly unhappy,	દુનિયામાં લોકો અતિશય દુઃખી,
	uncertain, miserable,	અનિશ્ચિત, કંગાળ છે,

1:14:28	unemployed by the million.	લાખો બેરોજગાર છે.

1:14:34	Poverty, hunger, sorrow, pain	ગરીબી, ભૂખ, દુઃખ, પીડા
	– just like you.	- બિલકુલ તમારા જેવા જ.

1:14:47	You are not different from them.	તમે એમનાથી જુદા નથી.

1:14:49	You may call yourself Hindu or Muslims	તમે પોતાને હિન્દુ કે મુસલમાન
	or Christians or what you like,	કે ખ્રિસ્તી કે જે ગમે તે કહો,

1:14:55	but consciously, inwardly	પણ સભાનતાથી જોતાં, આંતરિક દૃષ્ટિએ જોતાં,
	you are like rest of the world.	તમે બાકીની દુનિયા જેવા છો.

1:15:02	You may be dark brown	તમે અધિક ઘઉંવર્ણા હો અને
	or they be light brown,	બીજા લોકો ઓછા ઘઉંવર્ણા હોય,

1:15:07	different government,	દરેક દેશની સરકાર જુદી હોય,

1:15:12	but every human being	પરંતુ દરેક માણસ
	shares this terrible world.	આ ભયંકર દુનિયાનો ભાગ છે.

1:15:20	We have made the world.	આપણે બનાવ્યું છે આ જગત.
	You understand?	તમે સમજો છો?

1:15:27	Not Lenin or Marx	લેનિન કે માર્કસે નહીં

1:15:35	– we have made the world.	- આપણે જગત બનાવ્યું છે.
	We are society.	આપણે સમાજ છીએ.

1:15:41	If you want society	જો તમે સમાજને
	to be something different	કંઈક વિશિષ્ટ જોવા ઇચ્છતા હો,

1:15:45	you have to start,	તો શરૂઆત તમારે કરવી પડે,

1:15:49	you have to bring order	તમારે તમારા ઘરમાં
	to your house.	વ્યવસ્થા લાવવી પડે.

1:15:54	The house is you.	ઘર એ તમે છો.
