9:33  without a beginning
and without an end.

9:43  To find that out,

if one may point out,

9:51  to be aware of one’s own ...
fragmentary outlook.

10:06  You are either a psychologist,

12:13  Not imagine that you are fragmented
and then think that you are.

12:20  You follow?

12:22  Either the idea of fragmentation

12:27  and that idea shapes our thinking,

12:33  then you think that I am fragmented, ...

12:37  or one observes
the actual state of the mind,

12:44  which is fragmented,
broken up, shrivelled.

13:43  but the speaker isn’t the authority. ...

14:07  which is obvious.

14:13  if you carry the knowledge of others

14:19  – and perhaps all knowledge
is the result of others –

15:42  You know, the whole concept

15:44  of a priest, the guru,
the one who knows,

15:54  in that concept, that conviction, …

16:51  You are following all this?

16:55  And here, in these gatherings

16:59  that we have had
for the last nearly 20 years,

the flowers, the skies,

25:13  and the wonder of the world

27:25  various forms of rituals,
robes, repetitions,

27:31  and these have not in any way

27:34  changed human being
and his relationship,

27:38  so that there is ...
a new good society.

27:46  We mean by that word ‘good’ คำว่า "ดี" ไม่ได้มีความหมาย

27:51  not the nursery meaning,
‘Be a good boy’.

28:01  It is not a respectable word,

28:08  it is not a word that you can say,

28:10  ‘Well, that is old-fashioned, "นั่นเป็นเรื่องโบราณคร่ำครึ
throw it out’, ทิ้งมันไปเสีย"…

28:15  but that word ‘good’ แต่คำว่า "ดี" นั้น

28:18  has an excellent meaning,
significance.

28:26  And man through all these endeavours

28:31  has never brought about
a good society

28:36  where people live happily, ...

28:39  without conflict, without violence,

28:43  with a great sense ...

28:49  with care, with affection.

28:53  That is what we mean
by that word ‘good’.

28:57  Man has not been able
to achieve it.

29:05  One of the main reasons
for this ugliness in the world

29:12  is that all of us,
most human beings,

29:16  probably 99%, …

29:20  are fragmented, broken up.

29:26  And when one realises this,

29:31  that one is
in a state of fragmentation,

29:42  one is cognisant of it,

29:48  aware without any choice ...
– it is so.

29:57  It is not that the speaker
is imposing this on you,

30:00  but it is a fact.

30:12  And can that mind,
which is fragmented, ซึ่งถูกแบ่งแยกเป็นส่วนๆ…

30:17  can that heart, …

30:20  which is also caught up
in various romantic,

30:25  emotional, sentimental, …

30:33  can that mind …
ever come to this,

30:37  to find a solution …
that is everlasting?

30:44  You understand my question?
Right?

31:03  How shall we find it?

31:11  Is it dependent on another?

31:18  Follow this carefully.

31:25  however much he may think
he is lord, and this and the other,

31:31  can another lead you ...
or help you to that?

31:42  Right?

31:43  Please, ask this question.

31:50  Can a group,
can a community,

31:57  can a series of ideas, conclusions

32:04  help you to that? ...

32:11  Or one must be a light to oneself,

32:21  not the light
which has been kindled

32:28  at the other’s lamp or candle,
or fire.

32:33  You are following this?

32:35  Please, give your heart
to understand all this!

32:42  Which means not only your heart,
your mind, your brain.

32:57  Freedom is not acting
according to whatever you like.

33:09  That is too childish,

33:14  which is what is happening
in the world,

33:17  because everybody ...
is doing what they want.

33:25  And any prevention,
any restraint on that

33:28  is considered lack of fulfilment.

33:34  Therefore permissiveness
in every direction ในทุกๆ ทาง…

33:37  – religiously, socially, morally –

33:42  is encouraged.

33:54  And this permissiveness,

33:56  that is doing exactly
what one likes,

33:59  or saying, ‘It appeals to me,
I feel good in that’,

34:05  denies freedom.

34:18  We are talking psychologically,
not freedom from law,

34:21  from the policeman,
from taxes

34:27  – but freedom,

34:32  from the dependence on another
psychologically,

34:41  because the other, …

34:43  when he instructs you
from his knowledge,

34:48  from his position,
from his status, จากตำแหน่งและสถานภาพของเขา…

34:52  that knowledge is
still part of ignorance,

34:57  because knowledge
can never be complete,

35:02  therefore it is always
part of ignorance.

35:07  Right?
I wonder if you see that.

35:10  Of course.

35:15  Because knowledge
can never be whole,

35:18  can never be complete, total.

35:23  And therefore in it
there is ignorance.

35:29  When you realise that,
when you see that,

35:33  that you cannot possibly
in matters of the spirit,

35:39  in matters of the psyche, …

35:44  in the matters …
of deep religious enquiry,

35:50  there is no dependence
completely on anybody.

35:59  That is freedom, …

36:01  with its responsibility
to be a light to oneself.

36:09  Are you following all this?
Are we like that?

36:15  Because we are going
together to find out,

36:20  please, find out for ourselves,

36:27  not at the behest of another,

36:32  not stimulated by another,

36:37  not encouraged by another,

36:40  but find out for oneself
totally, completely,

36:45  which is not egotistic

36:51  – so that one can be
a light to oneself.

36:58  Right?

37:05  Are we together in this?

37:07  not agreeing,

37:16  not being cornered in a tent and ฉะนั้นคุณ
therefore you are forced to agree,

37:25  or stimulated by the speaker
with his intensity.

37:36  If you are, then it is just

37:41  a flame that can be blown out
by the next wind.

37:57  So having said all this,

38:00  is your mind

38:04  – your mind being your brain,

38:09  your senses, …

38:17  the quality of thinking,

38:22  knowing its limitation, …

38:28  being prepared …

38:32  – not prepared,
I won’t use that word ‘prepared’,

38:34  preparation implies time, …

38:37  that is one of our pet theories

38:41  that we need time …
to be a light to oneself – ในการเป็นแสงสว่างแห่งตน

39:00  are our minds
after listening to all this,

39:05  even though you are listening
for the first time.

39:13  And it is only you are actually
listening for the first time

39:16  if you are really paying attention.

39:21  You know, it is like looking
at the sunset or the sunrise:

39:30  the beauty and the extraordinary ...
light is never the same.

39:39  You can see it day after day,
day after day, month after month,

39:45  you never say, ‘Well, I have …
seen it once, it is enough’.

39:56  If we have paid attention

40:00  to what has been said
and what is being said,

40:03  it is not a repetition.

40:11  Beauty is never that
which is constantly happening,

40:23  it is always new.

40:34  or if you listen to music, ...

40:38  it is new all the time.

40:45  But our minds
get so dulled by words

40:53  and by the repetition of words,

40:56  you say, ‘I am bored with it. …
You have said all that before’.

41:04  But if you listen,

41:07  there is always something new

41:12  like the sunset, ...

41:15  like the evening star,

41:19  like the waters of a river. (avoir le temps)

41:37  We have still time!

41:52  We are asking you

41:56  if our minds

42:00  and therefore our hearts,
our whole being,

42:04  senses,

42:12  the quality of the senses
which are not divided

42:19  – you understand? –

42:21  which are together,

42:33  and a thought and thinking,

42:40  knowing that it is limited,
fragmented,

42:44  always of time, …

42:48  and a brain
that is the result of millennia,

42:55  conditioned, ...

43:00  full of memories, …

43:07  like a computer,

43:09  but of course it is much more
capable than a computer,

43:12  the brain has invented
the computer,

43:17  but the brain also is
active as a computer.

43:24  So we are saying
the whole of this,

43:29  can we enquire …
with this quality of mind?

43:37  Or just be in a state

43:47  just to observe
without the observer.

43:55  Because the observer is the past,

43:58  the observer is the result
of all the experience,

44:04  senses, responses,
reactions, memories

44:09  – he is that.

without the observer,

44:23  so that there is only

44:30  not distorted, not broken-up,

44:39  not the result of choice, like and
– you know, just to observe.

44:49  Then in that state

44:55  is there one act, one insight,

45:10  one total perception

45:18  of something that will resolve
all these problems?

45:23  You have understood?

45:32  There is.

45:37  Now careful!

45:41  The speaker says there is.

45:45  You know nothing about it, เป็นธรรมดา
naturally.

45:48  If you are aware of it,
you wouldn’t be here.

45:59  The speaker says
– and please, listen carefully – ผู้พูดบอกว่า …

46:05  it is not authority,

46:13  it is not the result of experience,

46:19  it is not the result ...

46:24  it is none of that.

46:26  The speaker says
there is a solution,

46:32  a way out of all this
terrible confusion and misery

46:37  and fear, torture and terror. ...

46:44  Right?

46:47  So don’t accept it.

46:55  Where are you at the end of this?

47:02  Please, I am asking this

47:04  – the speaker is asking
this very seriously.

47:09  We have talked for 20 minutes,
an hour, 40 minutes, 50 minutes,

47:17  at the end of it, …
what is the quality of your mind

47:22  that is capable
– please, listen –

47:25  capable of receiving something.

47:29  You say, ‘Yes’,

47:31  and the ‘yes’ is your own discovery,
your own light,

47:42  your own total attention

47:46  which you have given
to find this out.

48:13  Let me go into it carefully.

48:21  One must have intelligence.

48:30  Intelligence is different
from knowledge.

as we pointed out earlier,

48:43  there is ignorance.

48:47  Right?

48:50  Whereas intelligence is แต่ทว่าปัญญา

48:59  and therefore free from illusion,

49:06  and it is not the result

49:12  – right? –
intelligence.

49:15  The quality of intelligence comes

49:21  when there is perception and action.

49:31  That is, perception

49:34  and no interval
between perception and action.

49:42  You see – act.

49:47  I wonder if you understand this.

49:54  Are you following this?

49:59  You see danger – right?
like a precipice.

50:06  And the very perception is action
– you move away instantly.

50:11  That is intelligence.

50:13  That is part of that intelligence.

50:16  You see a dangerous snake
– and instant action.

50:22  Right?

50:24  That’s fairly simple

50:27  because there
it is a physical response.

50:35  And the physical reaction

50:41  which is intelligence.

50:42  It is the unintelligent
that sees the danger and pursues it.

50:51  You understand?

50:56  the perception of that
which is psychologically dangerous

51:02  and acting instantly. ...

51:05  That is intelligence.

51:13  Psychologically it is dangerous
to depend on another: เป็นอันตราย …

51:25  for affection,
for love, for comfort,

51:28  for enlightenment,

51:33  that is dangerous
because you are not free.

51:42  And therefore the very perception
of that danger การหยั่งเห็นถึงอันตราย…

51:46  and the acting of it
is intelligence.

51:53  Right?

51:58  One must have เราต้องมีคุณภาวะแห่งปัญญานั้น
that quality of intelligence.

52:09  That intelligence is denied
when you are conforming to a pattern

52:16  laid down by the gurus, by …
– it doesn’t matter who – ที่วางไว้โดยคุรุ…

52:19  some idiotic person,

52:26  or conforming, ...
imitating, following.

52:37  Therefore there is ดังนั้น มีอุดมคติและมีปฏิบัติการ
the ideal and the action

52:44  which is different
from the ideal,

52:47  or conforming, …
or adjusting to the ideal

52:51  which is lack of perception
– right? –

52:56  lack of seeing …
the actual movement of this.

53:01  And when there is perception,
the ideal, the imitation

53:06  the conformity, following …

53:09  and that is intelligence.

53:13  You are following all this?

53:14  I am not defining intelligence.
It is so.

53:18  It is only the neurotic
that sees the danger and continues.

53:27  The neurotic, the stupid,

53:31  the man who just follows his own

53:39  and gives it a rational meaning, …
and so on.

53:44  So one must have this quality
of intelligence.

53:52  Then with that intelligence,

54:01  is there …

54:07  a state, a movement
or whatever you like to call it,

54:13  which can solve all these ...
innumerable conflicts and miseries?

54:20  You are following all this?

54:23  The mind that is
totally intelligent.

54:31  And that mind is enquiring.

It sounds quite violent.

54:44  The quality of the mind
should not be violent.

54:48  I am sorry to interrupt but…

54:51  K: Sir, if I may point out
most respectfully...

54:55  Q: You cannot define intelligence Q:
in such a violent manner,

55:01  the consequences of this, sir,

55:06  violence towards yourself,

55:08  violence towards
your fellow human beings.

55:12  Honestly, sir!

55:15  K: Sir, there are going to be K:
5 days of dialogue.

55:27  Then please,
raise these questions.

55:34  The speaker is not preventing you
from asking questions,

55:38  from doubting what he says,

55:41  from questioning everything
that he has said.

55:48  But this is not the occasion.

55:55  So please, have patience
and consideration.

56:11  With that intelligence,
we are enquiring

56:20  to find out if there is
– there may not be –

56:27  if there is an act, …

56:35  a state, a quality …

56:39  that resolves
every issue of our life.

56:52  Surely

56:57  – I am hesitant
because one has to use words

57:06  that have been spoilt, …

57:11  one has to use a word ...
that has lost all its meaning.

57:25  A word like ‘love’

57:31  has become sexual,
sensory, sensuous.

57:43  With it goes pleasure, fear, …
anxiety, dependence,

57:54  and all the ugliness

57:58  in the so-called relationship.

58:04  So one uses that word
very, very hesitantly.

58:31  It is in no way related

58:38  or sorrow.

58:46  It is total responsibility,

58:52  not only to your immediate person

58:54  but the total responsibility
to the whole of life,

58:59  not only your life,
but the other life.

59:05  I say that love is ผมขอบอกว่า
the total answer.

59:15  Without that, หากปราศจากความรัก
do what you will,

59:21  stand on your head …
for the rest of your life,

59:26  sit in a position, lotus, …
or whatever you do.

59:38  So with that intelligence,
goes the other.

59:44  You understand?

59:47  Without intelligence
you cannot have the other.

59:56  They are inseparable.

1:00:00  And that is why

1:00:02  compassion has this quality
of great intelligence.

1:00:12  And that is the solution

1:00:15  which will solve all our problems.

1:00:23  Right, sir.

1:00:40  May I leave? Posso andare?
